Bestbuy dropped the ball on this release. It was on twitter and all over their forums. I had 2 Ellie editions pre ordered. 1 for me 1 for a friend. 1 shipped fine the other I had for in store pickup. Ordered that one in September. It was stuck on preparing for pickup. Went in store and apparently they were still waiting on mine to arrive but had multiple Ellie editions you could buy. Makes no sense, just give me one and fulfill my order. Nope I had to buy one and cancel the online order. There were even people who pre ordered regular editions who orders were stuck on preparing but the shelf was full of them. More than likely I’ll be going with Amazon for PS5.

I've had similar things like that happen to me before. I don't really understand the logic in that. Don't know if you ever read my RDR 2 ordering story, but these kinds of things make me pretty irate as a customer.

I hope I'm getting this within the next few hours, though. That means I'll be able to play for at least a couple of hours.

I have but something I’ve picked up on is the clickers and runners don’t seem to have a pre determined “pattern”. And it’s almost like they kinda sense where your at. So you start sneaking behind a particular area and one thats in range gets drawn closer to you. In part 1 when they were moving they moved in a certain pattern. You studied it and attacked. This one involves more timing and outsmarting them. One strategy Ive used is luring them together and hitting them with a molotov. If there’s a way to sneak pass them without having to fight I’ll go for that.

I noticed that as well I died and they changed up the way they went


A few smaller things I like

The trophy list is majorly improved since the 1st game where I got 1% on it. I’m already at 8% on this game after 6 hours

The map after you get everything from that building will be Crossed off and Ellie will even say I think we got everything. This way I know it’s ok to move and not go back just Incase I overlooked something.

It shows the hours played in the saves

It has auto and manual save

The difficulty adjustment is awesome

More Work benches then 1st game

It's a good looking game, but even on a decent 4K tv it's really not jaw dropping

Im gaming on an OLED and even though it looks great, I think ND purposely added a static effect to it.

I think ill be replaying Days Gone on Survivor after this to compare.

Definitely wish that I could turn off the "film grain" option as it's very apparent especially during the title screen as it sticks out like a sore thumb.

Non-spoiler thoughts a couple hours after finishing: All I can say is that that just happened.

MY FULL THOUGHTS FILLED WITH SPOILERS:

I have such a love-hate feeling with this. There's a lot of parts I like about this game, like how Ellie, Dina, and Tommy all ended up living.
But theres also a lot of things I hate, all story related.

Playing half the game as Abby when I didnt know who tf she was until AFTER she kills Joel, that felt really weird. I also really liked Jesse as a character, and his and Joel's deaths both felt as worse as GOT's Red Wedding... Also, the end of the game being in Santa Barbara, that felt off. The pacing was also weird, jumping all over the place chronologically, but thats now Druckmann and Naughty Dog do things I guess.

Gameplay wise, solid game. My original settings ended up becoming REALLY difficult pretty quickly, so I just went down to very light cuz I didn't want to put up with it anymore. That mega bloater x stalker x shambler in the hospital basement, that alone would take me 20 hours to beat.

If this was the beginning of the series, I would be saying this is the best game of all time, hands down. But it being Part 2, the first game was just a Joel and Ellie story. This game was a Joel and Ellie, and Dina, and Jesse, and Abby and Manny and Owen and Mel , and Yara and Lev story.

I guess what it comes down to is I just wanted another Joel and Ellie story and what I got was A LOT different.

Not really a spoiler, but when you get to the theater, practice the guitar in front of the stage. I did and it triggered a roughly 45 min good/funny/emotional side chapter. I'm not sure if this is what triggers it but I've seen some youtube playthroughs that didn't include this part. Not sure if it triggers later at all.
