    Re: Nioh

I stopped playing this shortly after I got it at launch, but have recently gotten back into it again. I had forgotten just how incredible this game is. I was a big fan of Bloodborne, but I dig this one even more because the Samurai aspect of Nioh has a greater appeal to me. I also prefer the mission structure as opposed to the entire world being connected.

I forget what my level is now, but I completed the first region of the game. I summoned help to deal with Hino-Enma. I think I could've gotten her eventually, but I felt so underpowered at that point. I took out Nue and Tachibana Muneshiga by myself, though. Good times.

Nue probably took me an hour because I kept getting hit with dumb ****, or running into a structure when he was dropping his lightning bolts.

Tachibana was fairly straightforward, but it was cool that I wasn't battling some huge monster in that one. We were just out there scrapping -- very cool stuff. I also liked how you are able to co-op with the NPC in that section and take out all those Yokai beforehand. It was a nice farm area.

Now that I've played for a while, I finally have a grasp on the crafting and things of that nature. The loot in this game is plentiful and I like that a lot. I had totally neglected the Agyo and Ungyo upgrades. I happened to look through the menus yesterday and saw that I had a ton of points to spend. That was very helpful.

I really didn't need another game to invest a lot of time in, especially since I'm still playing through the Witcher. This game is just too good not to keep playing, though. I'll have to grab the DLC, they've earned my money. Excellent game.

Been looking at this on PC. Anyone know if you can change your appearance in game via gear or do you only see stat changes on your character?
EA and 2k have the unfortunate task of trying to balance on a tightrope of fun and sim while trying not to fall 10,000 feet to their death. Instead of a safety net waiting down below there will just be angry customers quick to move out of the way and talk of their failure.

Gear changes appearance and stats if I'm understanding this correctly. Least from memory on PS4

            Re: Nioh

Didn't post this earlier but last month I beat the main game and did every side mission. Did a spear and onmyo build. Had a blast, to me perfect gameplay.....but honestly the story completely lost me. I had the sloth spell which I would use if I was hitting a wall on a boss.

Will dive into the DLC packs in a few months.

I bought this on sale for $20. I just got done at the tutorial at the dojo. I just wish I had more time to game. This might take me a year to beat.

I started this last night and played for about an hour or two. So far so good. I died a bunch. The kusarigama is badass.

Should I be saving items I'm not using for any reason? I've been using them as tribute at the shrines so far.

I broke them down for materials that I would use to reforge stats on armor and weapons or crafts items. I think I might have sold whites. But everything else I dismantled.

This demon on the ship is "tough." I'm a level 12 and went up against him last night for about 30 minutes. I might run through the map again to farm, but I didn't really try too hard last night against him since it was late.

What skills did you guys focus on early on? Right now I'm running with the sword and kusarigama and have unlocked some nice finishers for both. I've unlocked the ability to create the power pill and the steel talisman.

So many things going on it's a little overwhelming at first, but the game is great and addictive so far.

The game is tough, and as you know by now it doesn't take many mistakes to die in this game. I haven't played in a little bit, but I'm getting absolutely slaughtered where I last stopped. I need to get back to it soon because this game is so good -- been thinking about it a lot lately.

I've mostly run with the axe since the beginning, but I don't know if there's really a wrong way to play. It's all about getting comfortable with your weapon and leveling up. Here's a clip of me fighting the boss you're currently on if you need some ideas. I'm not a great player and was even less so when I clipped this, but I got through it. The satisfaction of defeating bosses in this game feels so good.

I've been running around with the katana/sword and kusarigama, but after reading up a little bit on how the skills affect weapons and other stats it doesn't seem like that build would be optimal compared to the others. I love the kusarigama so I might switch up my sword to dual blades or try the spear.

Obviously this game is about experimentation, but I haven't had enough time to really sit down and do that yet. Much less figure out what all the skills do exactly to things other than the noticable effects to health, ki, and weapon stats.

I was going to workup a spreadsheet to track what all the skills affect and ran across this google doc.

                              https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...I98/edit#gid=0

It's basically what I had in mind, but I might amend it to add some more detail to the weapons (range, speed, etc).

There's another boss? I'm still stuck on Onryoki and his balls and chains. His spin attacks gets me about half the time. Then when he moves into his second form that damn jump attack gets me because I incorrectly dodge backwards instead of towards him.

I ran through the map a couple times last night with the dual swords. Those are fun. Guys with spears give me the most trouble so I might run through a couple more times tonight with the spear to compare the two. I feel like the kusarigama can be shortened to cover the CQC of the dual swords, but I'm having trouble covering the range of these guys with spears. I got ****ing got by a level 1 revenant last night because his damn spear attack. ****ing noob lol.
