Also ok w/grenades being less effective than in the past..but spotting is killing me. In this game especially more than BF1 (which has a good spotting system), the HDR-ness (read: darkness and shadows) of it w/no indicators over the baddies makes enemies really hard to see quickly. I die a LOT.

And there are several chaps in this thread that know me and my style, and that I do tend to die while getting everyone their ammo and laying down suppression, but damn. I die a LOT in this game just because people are so much harder to see.

It looks beautiful, as does BF1, but lets sort the spotting system back to what we've had previously is my vote.

I hope we aren't in the minority, but we may be. I have always hated how this game turned into a spot fest once BF3 released. It turned into people just shooting at the dots where someone was spotted. That is why I always tried to find custom servers with absolutely no spotting or no 3D spotting. I like the changes they've made for this game, but I still would prefer nearly no spotting, definitely no 3D spotting at all.

I'd rather see a system where the spotting only shows an area of where they were on the map. If one person spots them there is a zone where they were near, if multiple people tag them then it is near pinpoint where they were at the time of being spotted. No spotting where the dot moves in real time, no spotting where there is a huge target over them in the world.

I'm not a fan of spotting, but I do see why in a game like this where communication is practically nonexistent it makes people feel like they are using some sort of teamwork even if it is on a very casual level.

              Re: Battlefield V

I'll add here that I DO like Battlefield V a lot...great maps and it's got a good feel. Of course the general production of it (sound, visuals, controls, presentation) is magnificent. I have fun when I play the trial version so far. I've played TDM, Conquest, and some of the campaign.

My request for some spotting help is that this is, at the end of the day, a videogame. As such, people move around much more quickly than they would IRL in WWII, and also spawn all over the map. They do not move in an organic, 'they will be coming from that general side of the map' fashion as they would IRL (save for paratroopers of course).

So, a spotting system is helpful for gameplay balance, especially when the players are blending into their surroundings so well and moving so fast and more erratically than they would IRL (hey, myself included).

That's just my opinion. NOT having my ideal spotting system in place is not a deal-breaker....it'd just be nice.

I like this title better than last year's WWII from a graphics and MP perspective, and I prefer BF system in general to COD system.

The old spotting allows for not having to use a mic all the time as well. Especially if you don't feel like using one all the time. I don't see how people considered spotting a problem in previous games. Considering the fact that they took spotting off the mini map in BF 1 to me that was enough

Like a lot of the mechanics in the game, they made the spotting more like BF2 and BF1942. I think if you are coming from those games you probably are fine with the spotting like I am. If your first Battlefield was after BF2 then you likely are too used to the way spotting became.

I understand we will all have differing opinions on spotting. Personally I am not a fan of any 3D spotting at all as I have stated before. If they brought that back into the game due to criticism then I'd either play in custom No Spotting servers like before or just not play the game anymore. Spotting mechanics the way they've been done in the last few BF games is just silly to me. I hate seeing bright orange dots floating above a players head.

Your right everyone is entitled to an opinion. I don't think it was over used at all tbh I can't understand why more people did not use it. If anything make it so yourself can see the spots that's how they should have made it. U spot u can see that way you don't have to worry about other players complaining about a red dot over someone's head

                      Re: Battlefield V

I want to like the game, but it's really frustrating at times. It's not so run-and-gun, which is nice, but you really need a good squad. It also feels like the majority of randoms in the game are more competent. The time-to-kill was pretty good in the Beta, but the finished product is frustrating and annoying. What worries me is that the SMG really need a buff or the LMG/HMG needs a nerf and I don't really trust DICE to fix that without making something else worse.

As it is, the KE7 is a little too OP. If you're playing with an SMG at close range and roll up on someone with a KE7 you can drop half a clip into someone and they pop a few shots in you with a KE7 and it's game over. You can also range people really ease from distance with an SMG or someone can land a random shot on you from what feels like miles away with the KE7 and you're dead.

Snipers are rendered almost completely useless unless you're playing a throwaway game or on select maps. You can accomplish the same thing with some of the DMRs. I miss running around with an SMLE in BF1, but I like that I'm not constantly under suppression from snipers hiding in the distance.

I like the balance of tanks and how you don't have to sink so many shots into them. Tanks could really dominate the battlefield in BF1 and they still can in BFV, but they are balance properly and they never feel overwhelming. The same can be said for the Heavy Bomber issue from BF1. You never really feel overly burdened with planes in the air, but a good pilot could still impact the battlefield.

There's also too many 95, 96, 97, 98, 99 enemy hits in this game. It happens to me ALL THE TIME where I sink plenty of shots into someone and die and I got a 95+ on them and it's not a case of laying off the trigger. Sometimes it just takes too long to kill someone and it leaves you exposed for too long to die.

It's extremely hard to see people in this game, which could be looked at in a positive light because camouflage actually works, but when people are laying prone it's really hard to see them. It's frustrating because the game encourages people to camp a lot more in random alleys and you literally can't see them and their head looks like a piece of rubble on the ground.

It's a good game, but lacks some depth and customization along with the gun balance issues that the majority of my clan is experiencing. I'll probably still sink hundreds of hours in it.

Good review. Kinda glad snipers are not as effective and really glad the cheap Bayonet is gone. Your right about camo though

The lack of spotting makes flying planes almost pointless since you have no idea where the ground troops are located. I hope Dice does something to address this.

So can someone explain how the spotting works? Because we were confused playing for the first time yesterday

You hit R1 if you see someone and then only your squad can see the spot? So you can't see spots from anyone else?

Then sometimes there's the gold marker that pops up on the map when you push the same button that I assume is just to direct your squad to let them know where to go or what general area an enemy is?
