    Re: Fallout 76

I'm hoping they release more video answering questions.

If anything, the beta should answer a lot about what can and can't be done in terms of "singe player".

I have pretty much the same questions. I’m pretty confident that there is no single player mode though. The game appears to revolve around dedicated servers so I think if you play solo you’re just in a world doing stuff solo that other people are also in at the same time. I think VATs is gone for this installment anyways.

It’s worrying because every time I play a survival game on dedicated servers I end up just wanting to host my own server somehow to avoid trolls.

Always online games have been around for a while.

I also wouldn't consider the concept of bricking a console when it's gone 24 hours without being connected to the internet to be something that's "ahead of its time."

While I recognize that an internet connection is, and was, becoming almost essential for gaming, it shouldn't be forced nor required.
There's no doubt that MS didn't take the best approach, but they were right.

You need internet to get patches and everything, realistically you need internet.

I get how people want to be able to play offline, but I think with better messaging and some tweaks the MS strategy would be better for gamers. Trading digital games and disc games like digital would be awesome. Being able to resell digital games? Killer.

Back to Fallout 76...I'm very intrigued. I need to know more exact gameplay info, but if I can play happily solo without too much stress I'd consider.

I'll withhold too much speculating for now, but as a solo player myself, based on what was stated during the presentation, it sounds like playing this game alone will be rather difficult. It reminds me a bit of The Division, which you can play solo, but ultimately you are quite handicapped/stifled come the end-game. You really need a group to succeed.

It is possible I'll still pick this game up. The online-only in-and-of itself doesn't scare me away, necessarily, but it will ultimately depend on the game mechanics. We can always wait until Fallout Five, though as someone that lived in West Virginia for 8 years, I'd be curious as to how this world was built.

And the Mothman better be in it! (I think I saw him as the last creature they showed.)

Great comparison. Exactly how I see it as of now.

if there is no solo, that's surprising coming from Bethesda who make the most coveted single player experiences. Other people are already doing the online thing and most likely better.

Another point they boasted about was 4x the size of FO4, but to me this is a bit of a turn-off. 4x the amount of wasteland isn't my idea of fun. They need to pack more into the wasteland and have more NPC's and more interactivity. Making it bigger in and of itself is a total turn-off for me.

I've always been interested in trying this game. But I can't do FPS's due to headaches.
I know FO has a 3rd person view, but I'm wondering how good it was?
The 3PV in other games which were meant to be played FPV, weren't always great.

I know what Mothman is...this is also taking place in Fallout so I was attempting a pun while referencing lore.

Just caught a few seconds of Bethesda talking about 76 on the Xbox daily show. He was adamant that you do not get punished for dying in this game but you will absolutely die if you are in an area a nuke hits.

Todd Howard confirms that Fallout 76 will have no offline mode.

"Solo play" will include other players in the world, you just would be playing the questline by yourself rather than as part of a group. No NPCs in the game aside from robots. Every character you see will be a real human. The quests will be like how they were in Fallout 4, but instead of running into a group of raiders or something, you'll run into other human players.

They do not want it to be grief-y and will try to dial it in. They want a little bit of drama there, without other players ruining your game. VATs will still be in the game, but it's going to be real-time and will let you target and pick parts to attack.

They're treating it as a game as a service, where they hope to add stuff into the game constantly and tweaking as they learn what the players love and hate about the game as they play it. They love mods and are committed to making mods possible in Fallout 76, but it will not be available or possible at launch. But they hope to reach a point down the road where you can have your own private world and play with mods and they are committed to bringing that down the road

There WILL be private servers, maybe not at launch necessarily, that wasn't clear, but there will be private servers at least at some point. So you may still be able to do a solo Fallout 76 without having to deal with other people, however, the world will be extremely empty as there will be no other NPCs other than some robots.

Todd confirms that there is no remaster of Fallout 3, at least not right now, mentioning that you can experience it in 4K on Xbox One if you still want to play it right now.

I am not writing this off. The setting alone will keep my eye on this, but this simply isn't what I wanted from Fallout and I don't see how they will create a game that will be as good as the single player games are to me. I guess this is sort of there way of creating the Fallout version of The Elder Scrolls Online.

Well, after reading all of that, this is looking like a pass for me. None of that made me feel confident that I could find a way to enjoy the game. If they add offline down the road or allow us to play without having to deal with other human players in the game, I’d probably give it a shot, but with no NPCs, I don’t really see any appeal. This makes me sad. ☹️
