I know everyone in here remembers playing the original GTA that was on PS1? When they were in Liberty City and London haha

My friend brought one of those two to basketball camp in the summer of 2001. I did not enjoy. I just remember the top-down view seeming primitive and we couldn’t jump a bridge like we were supposed to. We ditched it for NBA Live, where Eric Piatkowski proceeded to roast me.

First one I remember playing is GTA 2. Then GTA III came out and it was revolutionary. I'm sure there will be plenty of people buying this trilogy who never played any of the three, but I don't imagine many of them are going to play III and understand just what it meant to gaming when it came out.

            Re: GTA Trilogy

GTA 3 is my favorite one even though I don't necessarily think it's the best of the series. I really loved the story, mafia aspect, etc. at the time. Vice City and San Andreas are both really good games and I played those a lot as well but 3 will always be the favorite.

I never played any of the PS1 games but the car scene videos always remind me of the Dick Tracy NES game I had when I was a kid.

I probably shouldn't have been playing GTA 3 at the age. I remember my mom arguing with the person at Wal-Mart because she was buying the game with me present and the guy didn't want to sell it to her. What's kind of funny about that is compared to today's generation most parents didn't really play video games when I was a kid so that was probably a fair assessment in most cases. Now I play games just as much as my kids do so someone really wouldn't know who a game is for... times have definitely changed.

Ha, I pre-ordered the GTA Double-Pack (Xbox) and went to pick it up with my mom and I gave her a note with the title name and then looked around a bit at the store She had no idea what she was picking up and if she did no way I would had played that game

I never did beat 2. It is crazy seeing gameplay from it. I probably haven't played 2 in over 15 years at this point. I know I still have the CD and its case. I don't think I could handle playing it today if I tried even if I wanted to finally beat. Going 3D with III made 2 incredibly difficult for me to ever go back to honestly.

Man I remember calling my best buddy a liar at school when he was describing GTA 3 to me because all I ever knew was the top down gameplay. I never played the original but I knew what it was. GTA 3 is, to this day, the only game to completely blow my mind. The game was so great I don't even remember my boy tripping over me doubting him, we just played the whole weekend. I don't know if it was luck or I looked like a crazed crackhead or something but my Pops took me to buy the game a few days later. It was late in the year so usually I'd have to wait for Christmas for a game. Good times.

Kinda surprised no one asked if Claude and Tommy will be able to swim now like CJ and later protagonists. Of course that would mean they would have to render an underwater environment since III and VC probably didn't have one since the characters couldn't swim.

III was the 1st one I played though I actually never finished the game. I think I was pretty close but never reached the final mission. I remember thinking how the 3rd Island (Shoreside Vale) seemed so small and cramped compared to the other 2 islands.

Also, I don't care about the music. In III and VC I would mostly listen to the talk shows but in later games I would usually just turn the radio off and just listen to the ambient sounds.

I seriously doubt it and don't really need it for those 2. Vice City maybe because there were on water missions.

I think I only beat GTA 3 once, while I completed VC and SA multiple times. I remember getting stuck on a mission with the Triads or something first go round and stopping. Then I got through it when I brought the original Trilogy on PS3.

I'm really choosy on replaying games again. Ideally it is after multiple years and forgetting large chunks of the game where it almost feels new. Like I just recently replayed the last Tomb Raider game after a few years, and I barely remembered chunks of the game. I think I last played the Trilogy on the PS3 about 8-9 years, so it should be mostly fresh. But, I'll most likely remember 95%+ of VC and SA, whereas GTA 3 might feel the "newest" to me.

I kind of wonder if they will have the same cheat codes lol. I doubt they will bring them over. I felt the whole cheat code era stopped after the PS3/360 generation. I can still remember some after a decade lol. The Jet Pack cheat came in handy early on in game with bypassing the long travels

I'm definitely all in on this one. I probably haven't played GTA III or Vice since 2004 or prior. Nostalgia gaming has worked out pretty well for me when done right. I don't expect these releases to match the Tony Hawk Pro Skater re-boot (which was amazingly done) but I like what I've seen so far.

Speaking to Tony Hawk, I wouldn't be surprised if the soundtrack shakes out the same way. I don't have an exact number but it felt like THPS 1 & 2 had around 75 percent of their original tracks, including the majority of the heavy hitters (some classics did still miss the cut though). With how messy song rights can be, unless Rockstar signed for these songs in perpetuity, I'd imagine it won't be 1:1 song retention. THPS slipped in some new tracks (or new old tracks) that carried the same vibe and it actually added a nice additional element of newness.

GTA III was the game that taught me to create multiple save files for a campaign mode.

I achieved 100% in that game after finishing the paramedic missions (that whole thing was a story and frustration within itself actually), tried to see if I could unlock Carcer City, found out it wasn't a thing, then saved... and my game froze. I'm not sure if a corrupted save froze the game or if a game freeze corrupted my file, but the next time I tried to fire up the game it brought me back to the opening mission. Oh, I was hot and bothered.

Anyway, I think we were talking about swimming in the GTA V thread regarding these games. Or at least, I thought it. There was a video that brought it up and I think I commented on it there.

As far as radio stations go, I never turned off Chatterbox FM in GTA III. I'll continue not to when I play it this time as well. I don't care if it loops like the same hour of material, heh.
