As much as smokers hate to acknowledge it, the fact that someone smokes does say a lot about that person. And oh by the way, it is in fact a disgusting habit.

Wow, that is very stereo typical. What does it say about the person? They are rude, crude, stupid and unhealthy? Some of the greatest people in this world were smokers, from the best presidents to the best scientists. I guess all those people that eat meat are rather nasty too then, how dare the kill animals then clog their arteries with the carcasses, knowing very well that they really shouldnt be doing it.

You cannot judge a man by his habbits, only his actions here on earth. Labeling someone as somehow inferrior to you because of a habbit is just as bad as that said habbit.

Do people consider smoking shisha disgusting? I usually smoke that about 1 every 2 months but never inhale.

Yes, it may not be as disgusting as having sex with an animal or eating another human being. If that was the point he was trying to make, then I guess I agree with that.

Mainly, Graphik's response was full of hyperbole and lacking much substance. We, as non-smokers, shouldn't be "judgemental" of smokers? Nobody is saying that smokers are evil, or "bad" people, we're just saying it's a disgusting, unhealthy habit that is offensive to people who don't indulge in it. That's pretty much not disputable and I'm not sure why a smoker would be offended that people think that way....

If I blew smoke in your face, thats offensive but I go out of my way just so I dont accidentally blow smoke in a non-smokers direction and you feel its offensive. And yes, I am offended that someone would think that way. Ciggarettes are legal man, I hope you realize that. If you find it offensive that I smoke then your beef should'nt be with me. Take it the government or whatever. Dont sit there and judge me because I'm doing something thats perfectly legal.

I don't think smokers are evil but they shouldn't complain about new laws that make it harder for them to smoke around people. If you are standing in front of a building the smoke will not get diluted in the air fast enough for me to not breathe it in. And just because there's already crap in the air that doesn't mean that people should accept more from smokers.

I dont complain at all. Most of the laws make sense. What does bother me was in my building where I work, we had a smoke room in the basement were us smokers could cloud our lungs and kill ourselfs in our own privacy. After the laws got passed, they closed it down. Which IMO, makes no sense. There was no way for a non-smoker to get a wiff of the smoking room. Yet, there were complainers regardless. This world is full of whistle blowers.

I'm still not really sure where you're getting the whole "judging" thing. People are judged by their actions, there's really no way around that. If I went out and engaged in the very legal pursuit of financing someone's political campaign, you could then judge what kind of person I was based on that action. Similarly, if someone chooses to smoke while knowing the health risks and associated social nuisance that it provides to non-smokers, you can then similarly "judge" a few things about them from that action.

It's nothing to get upset over, it's just the way things work. Your perception of a person is built by the things they do and the choices they make. When someone chooses to smoke, that tells me something about that person. I'm not taking a holier-than-thou approach or saying that person is any better or worse than I am, I'm just saying that people are defined by their actions. I don't see what the big deal about that is.

By the way, the "don't judge me for doing something legal" argument is kind of ridiculous. Legally, I'm within my rights to talk at normal speaking volume throughout an entire movie in a crowded theater. Is that considered acceptable behaivior? Probably not. Would my action of doing so tell the people around me something about me? Probably so....

What about people like my example at the Little League game..thats pretty disrespectful to me. Sure they have the right, their outside..but be curtious to others.

Like myself, I do listen to my music loud sometimes,but if I pull up to a redlight and there are people with their window down (well certain people..older people, people withchildren in the car etc) next to me, i turn my music down. Just out of respect.

Well you said the guy stopped after people looked at him right? By percentages, some others at the game were probably smokers too, but were respectful enough to not be smoking. Just because some jackass smokes cigarettes doesn't mean all are.

Like myself, I do listen to my music loud sometimes,but if I pull up to a redlight and there are people with their window down (well certain people..older people, people withchildren in the car etc) next to me, i turn my music down. Just out of respect.

I actually do the same thing. It's just out of respect for others. Just like holding doors for people that are maybe 5-10 yards behind you and entering/exiting the same building.

When I was in college I went to clubs/bars every TH, F, SA and day off and dealt with the smoke. Now that I'm older I don't want to be around it so I don't go to those places. Plus my girlfriend has asthma and she has trouble breathing when around smoke for an extended time.

The way I see it is that if you smoke, fine....just do it away from me and we won't have any problems. If your clothes stink like smoke in the office, don't take offense when I stand 10 feet away or ask to spray you with lysol.
