Re: For all you guys wanting to gain muscle, size, etc.

I'm trying to get a routine together to start getting ready for football. I am 16, 6'2 185. I already have alot of strength in my legs from playing basketball for most of my life. I have the biggest calves you have ever seen, all muscle. I also feel I have a good bit of strength in my biceps/triceps.

I'm going to be lifting at school in a month or so, but would like to do stuff at home before I get to that point. This is what I got now

      Monday - Upper Body
      Tuesday - Lower Body
      Wednes. - Cardio
      Thurs - Upper Body
      Friday - Lower Body
      Sat - Cardio
      Sun - Rest

I have one of those exercise machines. Here is what I am doing with it now

All are on 50lbs unless otherwise stated

      Arms (3 Reps):

      Vertical Bench Press
Military Press (I think thats what its called)
      Bar Pulls
      Lat Pulldown
      Tricep Push Down
      Butterfly

      Legs (5 Reps):
      Leg Extension
Standing Single Leg Curl (Alternate legs, 10 each leg on 30 pounds two times = 1 rep)

At night, I do 25 situps/100 crunches, 100 ankle jumps, and will be adding more leg related exercises from the Hofstra Speed Training guide I found on the internet. I am also considering taking some sort of protein

Re: For all you guys wanting to gain muscle, size, etc.

Alright I went out and got some of the Optimum Nutrition protein at GNC. They had a 2lb tub for $20 so I went went that instead of the GNC brand. I asked the guy there some questions since I'm a beginner and he suggested putting 2 scoops (48g of protein) in 8-12 oz of water right after my workout. Is that how I should do it or should I do one scoop before, one after? Also, should I take some on days that I don't work out as well?

Also have a couple more questions, one being how realistic would it be to put on 10-15lbs of muscle before this summer? Keep in mind that I'm kind of tall and scrony, so I think I should be able to fill out pretty quickly and put on a decent amount of muscle quick. Another question I have is would it be possible to lose fat and put on weight at the same time? For example, I've lost close to 50lbs this past year and have very little fat on my body. The only place I really do is there is a layer of somewhat loose fat on my stomach. I'm hoping to both lose that and finally have abs show and put on muscle before this summer.

Yes. The general consensus is taking it within 30 minutes.

Protein is an essential part of any diet. Unfortunately you shopped at GNC, which is a bit more expensive than other places. You only got 2 lbs so in the future if you're going to get supplements get them online or at the Vitamin Shoppe if you have one in your area.

To put on 10 lbs of solid muscle will be tough but I think you can do it. However, you can't do it quick. Despite popular belief, muscle doesn't show up overnight. Putting on muscle takes consuming more calories than you exert. My advice to you is to get in the weight room and lift heavy. Eat healthy, clean food and a lot of it.

If you guys have more questions feel free to ask.

I'm looking to become a more physical blocker, have a better explosion of the LOS, and gain some acceleration/speed.

I don't really mind the cost, I just wanted to try something out and see how it was. From what I can tell $20 for a 2lb thing of On isn't too bad of a deal, so I really don't mind. Do you have any advice on when and how much to take other than right after a workout? Like how much and when on days that I don't workout, etc?

I'd say shoot for 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight. You'll get more than you think through food in general, especially lean meat.

What are the health benefits of NOT drinking sodas? I haven't had one since January 7th and before that it was 2 or 3 cup fulls at resteraunts whenever I would go and atleast 1 can a day after school. If I went to sonic it was a large or route 44.

Is it the caffeine that isn't healthy? I want to cheat and drink sprite

I'm pretty sure it isn't just the caffeine. There's more too it but I'm not the person to explain it. I think it was mentioned earlier in this thread, something about corn syrup or something.

Sugar is the main culprit in soda that makes it unhealthy. I don't think caffeine is that good for you either (in large quantities), but I'm not sure.

Much better answer than mine haha. I'm sure if you google'd it you'd get a better answer than you will find here.

High fructose corn syrup is one of the worst things about it, along with the sugar and all the calories that you get from it that you don't need.

Sugar is the DESTROYER of "Ripped" bodies.

You will never get lean if you take in tons and tons of highly processed sugary foods.

That includes Sugar, Corn Syrup, etc. They are all the same damn thing...sugar.

In fact...most folks spend too much time seeing how many fat grams are in a food and not paying attention to how many grams of sugar are in a food.

You are better off with the fat than the sugar.
