I use this as well, cant expect to pull in girls with a nice body if you dont have the same or you're pockets aren't lined with cash. I bring music with me just to get me focused, it really helps on the days when all you think about is how much it sucks.

Not gonna lie, sometimes you just don't want to do it but I've tried to turn it into a challenge. Since I no longer play organized sports, I try to treat it like an athletic competition, only I'm playing against myself if you will. Once I'm at the gym and perform the first set, I'm good. It's just getting there that's difficult sometimes. You're right; the right kind of music can get you totally motivated for a kick-arse workout.New Jersey Devils- 1995, 2000, 2003

Re: For all you guys wanting to gain muscle, size, etc.
Try to find someone that will go with you. Me and my friend have been going for 9 straight weeks. I know that we both have those days were we don't really wanna go but we force each other to go.Comment

God, I feel like such a pig. I had a small bag of Harvest Cheddar Sun Chips for a snack this afternoon. I know that they're not terrible for you relative to potato chips, but I still feel guilty for eating them. And I can still taste the damn salt on my tounge. No more snacking for me, lol. I think I've lost the taste for all this stuff that's not healthy for you.New Jersey Devils- 1995, 2000, 2003

Re: For all you guys wanting to gain muscle, size, etc.
When I first started working out it was hard to get motivated. After about a month or 2 of forcing myself to do it, and I started making noticeable progress, it became kind of addicting. Now its easy to workout on a consistent basis because I really like working out. I can't remember the last day I was supposed to work out that I said I just didn't really feel like it.Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment

Re: For all you guys wanting to gain muscle, size, etc.
I'll be honest; a lot of my motivation comes from scoring girls. I say to myself, "Hey, if you want a girl that looks good and puts a lot of effort into herself, you'd better be doing everything you can to make sure that you look up to par as well." I can't be a hypocrite. I don't find overweight women attractive, so I can't expect a good-looking girl to not feel the same way about guys.
Some of my motivation also comes from the fact that I like to accomplish things that may not seem possible to the average person. How many guys out there would KILL for a six-pack? Well, I want to be one of the small percentage of guys who actually has one. That sense of accomplishment makes you feel like a million bucks. It also makes me sad to see people who are so overweight that they can barely climb a flight of stairs or walk to their car from the office without getting winded. I don't want to be the guy who doesn't have enough energy to play with his kids when I'm 40.
I think I tell myself, and others, is that I'm trying to stay healthy...when in fact...it's just me wanting to look damn good - like having a flat stomach. That's honestly what I've been working on since I was 16 (now 24).

The problem? Well..it's two-fold. 1. I can be lazy - too lazy sometimes & 2. I expect the results to be INSTANT...like overnight...I know that is completely unrealistic - stupid as well, but I'm just not patient enough. I know I need to just suck it up and either get a gym membership (and personal trainer) or find another way to get more motivated.
Btw, I'm not fat or anything - a little heavier than I used to be. I'm still active as hell with soccer, but just don't think that is cutting it.
*sigh, another night - settled for ab workout over the buns&thigh one we had planned.Comment

Re: For all you guys wanting to gain muscle, size, etc.
Started taking a yoga class this term. I love it. Its a completely different type of workout than anything i've tried before. And it is extremely relaxing. Just go with it and don't worry about how you look in class. You get in some awkward body positions. hahaUniversity of Oregon

Re: For all you guys wanting to gain muscle, size, etc.
Do you guys perscribe to the idea that if you can't do a set amount of push-ups/sit-ups/pullups in a given time period (say, 1 or 2 minutes), you're out of shape? I think it's nonsense. A magazine I was reading a few days ago said that you have to do at least 40 sit-ups in a minute if you consider yourself to have strong abs. Is it even possible to do 40 sit-ups in a minute if you're using good form and actually going through the entire intended motion? To me, it's not how fast you can do an exercise, it's doing it properly that really matters.New Jersey Devils- 1995, 2000, 2003

Re: For all you guys wanting to gain muscle, size, etc.
When I work out I have to wake up at 3:45 in the morning.
walk about 30-45 minutes in the cold darkness, catcha carpool (a nother hour) to the city, then wait for the gym to open at 5am.
It take s alot to do this everyday...it really does.
If i had a car it wouldnt be a issue but I'm determiend to be the best athlete I can be given the circumstances.
unfortunatly for me im extremly injury prone, and after coming back forma dislocated shoulder which put me out 4 months...i broke a bone in my ankle, whihc put me out another 2 months...i get the cast of wednesday.. but all that progress i made went down the drain.
I basically have to start over form scratch as i have no muscle definition and i gained a easy 10-15lbs.
Im still going to do it though... im determined.
So my motivation is basically sports...and to be better than the next guy...also when you are lean and trim clothes just fit you and look a lot better.
so i guess thats it too.#SimnationComment

Re: For all you guys wanting to gain muscle, size, etc.
And there are different measures of saying whether or not someone is "in shape". There isn't one strict definition. There are guys who can bench press 300 lbs but can't run 1/4 mile without become winded. Conversely, there are guys who would probably have a hard time putting up 100 lbs that can run a marathon. You hear athletes say that they're not in "football shape" or "basketball shape" during training camp or when coming back from a long layoff due to injury. It all depends upon what your goals are. Of course, there are some things that most people SHOULD be able to do without trouble. For example, if you can't climb a flight of stairs without panting, you probably need to take a look at your diet and exercise habits.New Jersey Devils- 1995, 2000, 2003

Re: For all you guys wanting to gain muscle, size, etc.
For all those that drink out there...
Drinking too often/too much alcohol will actually impede protein synthesis which will limit the amount of muscle you can gain or slow repair after a work out.
That is all.Comment
