i took about a week where i did some abs here and there, cardio like running a few miles and stuff. then right into p90x+. i still throw in an original p90x 2-3 times a week to keep up with those as well, but the plus are where it's at. you can do them in a little bit less time and you feel smashed. the 10 minute trainer videos are money as well, you wouldn't believe how wrecked you can get in 10 minutes...

You either need weights and a pull up bar or just bands.

You can use the bands to emulate pull ups (might have to get creative to figure out what to wrap it around or what to use that is high enough that you can suspend it to) and all of the other weight excercises, but from the few people I have talked to, you will get better results from using weights and pull and a pull up bar.

If you're going the weight route, you either need to have a set of dumbells probably from 5-50 pounds or buy and adjustable set, which either way can get expensive. If you are using your brothers P90X video's, maybe you can borrow his equipment as well.

The other thing I would reccomend is pushup bars. You will do a ton of pushups on chest and back day and it will both take stress off of your writsts and allow you to get a little deeper in your pushups.

          P90X - Day 3...Chest Shoulders Triceps + Ab Ripper X

Absolutely crazy brutal workout, especially because we were all feeling the last two days. I think I felt it just a tad more because had a soccer game late last night.

What we took away from it is 1. We are going to be ripped by the end
          2. We are going to be push-up experts and 3. We won't fall on our faces trying to do one-handed pushups

This workout was lotsa pushups (all different styles - amazing) and some solid tricep workouts like "throwing the bomb" (football-wise).

All in all, damn this is awesome, but you'll get your butt kicked - glad i got my boys to push on with.

Yeah Im on day three also. I'll do it tonight around 8 or 9. I thought that day 2 was a lot harder than day 1. I was thinking like you by the end of this Im going to look like a super hero! I really like it because it outlines everything for you to do, as far as exercise & diet. Ive been following it to the "t" so far, although Im only 3 days in. Im going to keep up with you guys as well for some extra motivation.

                  Frickin Yoga X.

P90X, Day 4 -- Yoga X was too much for us this morning, so we only did 30 mins of it.

Our plan is to continue the remaining HOUR (1 hour and 30 min of yoga? yikes) later tonight.

My buddies and I were not prepared. This yoga is not just stretching and what not. It's holding positions, pushups for a long amount of time keeping your body up. Tension in our necks and back of the head - we knew it was just too damn early to be doing this.

So, not quite off track, but off the key - gotta keep it up - pushing to do it tonight as soon as I get home.

Btw - I wore a shirt today for work that was previously very tight on me - not so anymore. I feel really comfortable, and really good about how I'm starting to look. I know it's the first week - but I'm feeling results. If it's more mentality than anything, i'll gladly take that, because this is great.

In phase 1 Classic, isn't day three Shoulders and Arms?

I am starting phase 2 this week and my day 1 is Chest, Shoulders and Tri's + ab ripper.

                    I thought phase 1 was:
                    Chest / Back + abs
                    Plyo
                    Shoulders / Arms + abs
                    Yoga
                    Legs & Back + abs
                    Kempo
                    Rest / Stretch

                    And Phase 2 is:
                    Chest / Shoulders/ Tri's + abs
                    Plyo
                    Back and Bi's + abs
                    Yoga
                    Legs & Back + abs
                    Kempo
                    Rest/Stretch

Maybe they changed it and I have an older version.

You'll find out later tonight or next time, but the first 45-50 minutes is the hardest part (up until 42 minutes left to be exact). Once you get there, you are done with your plank to chatarunga "vinassa" and all of the warrior position and runners pose stuff.

After that it's mostly balance stuff, that isn't nearly as laborous, though some of the positions seem impossible unless you have done it for a long period of time...watch out for the crain!!!

There is also nice little ab workout in the second half. It's only about 5 or 6 minutes, but it's tough.

The last 10 minutes is cake. A lot of simple positions just laying down and stuff...not much to it.

If you get past the first 45 minutes, you've got it made.

If you don't mind me asking what were your fitness levels like before you started p90x? I can get the whole program off my cousin but it seems like it's pretty damn hard so i have been working to improve my fitness by running and lifting weights before i tackle p90x.

To give you an idea, they have kind of recomended minimums of what you should be able to do before starting P90X.

                              1) Pullups: Males should be able to do 3 (females 1). It says you don't have to be able to do any, but you will get more out of it if you can. You can always use chairs to take some weight off or use bands.

                              2) Vertical leap: 5 inches male (3 female)

                              3) Pushups: 15 male (3 female)

                              4) Toe Touch: You should be able to reach at least 6 inches from your toes.

                              5) wall squat: should be able to hold it for 1 minute

                              6) Bicep Curls: should be able to do 10 reps of 20 pounds if male (10 reps of 8 pounds for female).

                              7) ab test: should be able to do 25 in and outs. (but on the ground, chest up and feet out, then bring chest and thighs together).

This is what they recomend. Basically do each one and give yourself a few minute break and do the next...if you can pretty much do them all, you can do P90X.

The bottom line is you need to be in some kind of shape. You don't need to be a world class athlete, but if you run out of breath going up a flight of stairs, you may need to get in shape, before you kill yourself.

You can do it if you are out of shape, but it's going to be that much harder.

If I were you, I would go on youtube and search "P90X Transformation" or "P90X Results". You'll get a good idea of what kind of people have had sucess with the program and it will motivate you to want to start the program.

When I started I was 5'10 175. I had a bit of beer belly. I play softball once a week and golf every now and then and work out at the gym 3-4 times a week, but not much cardio. 4 weeks in and I'm already down to 165, which is where I want to be.

If you can get through the first workout and then the first week, you will be fine.

I got through P90X. It's safe to say there are really no "easy" workouts, unless you call X Stretch a workout.

I think someone said it already, but the first few weeks were the toughest. Just so you know, rest weeks are no cake walks either.

Good luck on all those who are doing P90X. Just keep at it. It'll pay off.
