It's probably just in my head, some of my friends tell me it's actual beneficial for your muscles to get a decent rest period... as long as your still somewhat active and move your muscles can't atrophy.
Same for me. If I take extended breaks I fell like I lose a lot of muscle.

Reading through this thread would be a good place to start.

Like you said, your going to have to eat a lot more. Eating at least 2500-3000 calories a day would be a good start. Also how tall are you?

According to this site your body needs a little over 2000 calories per day to maintain your body weight (assuming you do at least moderate exercise). So to gain weight you're going to have to make sure an eat more than that every day. Honestly that shouldn't be very hard to do, because you can get that much pretty easily if you eat at least 3 decent meals every day.

I still say shoot for 2500-3000 a day to start out, mixed with working out and see if your can put on some weight. I'd also invest in some whey protein if you don't have any, so that you can make sure and get enough protein for you to put on muscle instead of fat.

There are a bunch of people on here that are much more knowledgeable about this stuff than me, so don't be afraid to ask questions. I got basically all the advice I needed from here when I was first starting to try to work out and put on muscle/weight.

Over the course of last week I lost 4lbs total. Most of which is water weight since I was drinking so much and not eating nearly like I usually do. Yesterday I felt a little weaker but overall I was only coming up a rep or two less then I usually do. Tomorrow will be the real test since I'm eating like I usually do.

I felt like I lost a bit but it really wasn't that bad, I measured my arms to see if I actually did but they were exactly the same. So I don't think anyone should be afraid of taking one week off.

I'll let you guys know how tomorrow goes.!

So you are saying that eating more won't help me gain muscle along with working out?

Rest is probably the most crucial portion to any workout. Your muscles cannot grow if you don't give them time to recover.

When I first started I didn't take any breaks. Now, after reading a lot on the subject, I always take a full week off after an 8-week cycle.
I might still run, or do some situps, but I don't touch a weight.

And I noticed the difference immediately. All those little nicks and pains iron out. And you come back feeling more mentally fired up. After taking 7 days I was ready to attack those weights.

I'm doing HST right now and I really like it. It was hard for me to get past the fact that I was only doing 2 sets per body part (for the most part) 3x a week. I was convinced it wasn't enough. But it is.
It was also hard for me to wrap my mind around not going to failure on every single set. But the concept behind HST is scientifically proven and I've noticed some results after only 1 eight-week cycle.

For anyone that's hit a wall, or is tired of the same old thing, give it a try. It's fun and breaks the monotony of the regular routine.

I'll probably do HST for another 8 week cycle and then go back to what I was doing before for the next 8-16 weeks. I'll sprinkle in HST throughout the year to keep things fresh and my body guessing.

You're 16 and you weigh 110-115. Eat what ever you'd like, your metabolism is most likely going extremely fast so don't worry if your diet isn't 100% clean. Eat, eat, eat!

My damn resistance band snapped during pull ups for the chest/back workout.

I feel not as tight but often I come back stronger. I'm just getting back back into lifting after about a month off. That post 1st day soreness is a killer.

**** man I hear you, I took off a solid 2.5 months and my first day back I squatted heavy (I retain muscle crazy, I hardly lost any of my lift but it was still a bad choice to go heavy) and I felt it for what seemed like a week.

Question - I am looking to improve my cleans over the course of about three weeks. Any supplemental lifts that will help me with those same muscle groups?

                            1. jerks; deadlift the weight and just rep out fast (but with good form) jerking the weight up to your chest/clean position and back down

                            2. HEAVY shrugs; put the bar on the part of the squat rack that catches the bar if you fail. put like 315 on there (more if you can handle it, less if you can't). i rec. using bar wraps so you can get more reps out but bend over slightly, 'til the weight is just above the knees resting on the thighs. stand up/roll your hips through and do a shrug. rep out until failure

GOOD LUCK, power clean is the best lift you can do for explosion if you use proper form...
