While being healthy, what is the best way to gain weight? I will be honest, I am to lazy to go to the gym on my own so I can't go every day, I do workout every other day during athletics but it's really just light jogging then some weights. I don't care about being ripped or ever that strong, just get some meat on my bones I have a super super superx1000 high metobolism so no matter what I eat I will not gain once single ounce. I actually lost 5 pounds from august 06 to august 07.

Re: For all you guys wanting to gain muscle, size, etc.
What are the health benefits of NOT drinking sodas? I haven't had one since January 7th and before that it was 2 or 3 cup fulls at resteraunts whenever I would go and atleast 1 can a day after school. If I went to sonic it was a large or route 44.
Is it the caffeine that isn't healthy? I want to cheat and drink sprite
Soda is quite possible the worst thing to happen to this country. For one thing, it includes an insane amount of sugar. Another thing is it doesn't hydrate you or make you feel full. It contributes nothing positive in my opinion. It is the definition of an empty calorie.
Sugar is the DESTROYER of "Ripped" bodies.
You will never get lean if you take in tons and tons of highly processed sugary foods.
That includes Sugar, Corn Syrup, etc. They are all the same damn thing...sugar.
In fact...most folks spend too much time seeing how many fat grams are in a food and not paying attention to how many grams of sugar are in a food.
You are better off with the fat than the sugar.
Just because things are low fat people believe they are good for them. I'm actually starting the Anabolic Diet that someone talked about earlier. I'm loving it. All my cravings for carb-filled foods is gone and it's only been 5 days.
My diet consists of 5% carbs, 35% protein, and 60% fat. That right. I wake up and have eggs/sausage/cheese. I've lost 6 lbs of water weight, which doesn't mean much. BUT, I have not gained anything despite eating fatty foods with cheese on them.
I remember someone mentioning something about the Anabolic Diet before and I've done a fair bit of research on it. If they have any questions just ask.
The girl I'm dating right now won't eat anything with over 10g of fat in it. She'll down sweat tea and anything with a ton of sugar and not think twice! I'm honestly about to say my good byes to her.Comment

EAT. EAT. EAT. Quit being lazy in the gym. Oh, and EAT.
Yes. Gatorade is designed for people who are being active. They are not designed for people sitting at a desk. In that situation it is basically a soda without carbonation. However, if you're talking about it for yourself it doesn't matter because your body isn't going to store any of the extra carbs/sugar as fat....and that's what most peoples bodies would do.Comment

Hey Stewaat,
I was the one who mentioned the Anabolic Diet. I read a little bit into it and I just wanted to know your thoughts on it, some impressions, and possibly a brief overview on the whole shabang for the people that havent heard about it.

Sounds good. I eat a pb&j sandwich for lunch every other day which is basically a snack because I eat once I get home from school an hour later, and each night eat a package of these crackers I fell in love with.Comment

Re: For all you guys wanting to gain muscle, size, etc.
Monday through Friday:
60% fat (through red meat, sausage, fish, bacon, eggs, cheese)
35% protein (same as above)
5% carbs (mainly from veggies - stick to under 30g/day)
Saturday & Sunday:
60% carbs
30% fat
10% protein
Basically they say you can eat whatever you want. I am going to have this next weekend as this weekend I wanted to make sure my body converts to using fat as its energy source.
I'm going to have some low fat ice cream and some homemade pizza. I'll probably have some oats as well because I love em.
I lift like this:
Mon- legs
Tue- back/bi (cardio)
Wed- chest/tri (cardio)
Thur- shoulders (cardio)
Fri- total body
Sat- off & eat my carbs
Sun- I'll do a long cardio early in the day (going back to high fat...only a 1 day "carb up" for me)
I dropped about 6 lbs of water weight in the first 5 days. Glycogen depletion basically.
Summary
Eat like a man. Carbs aren't needed everyday. This is intended for people who work out regularly. The goal is deplete all your muscle glycogen by the time the weekend rolls around so your body is in need of carbs. The carbs you eat will go straight to your muscles and your body will still be in a fat burning mode. Fat gain should be non existent...or at the very least minimal during the first couple weekends. Overall this should help preserve muscle while cutting bodyfat. Remember, your body will adapt to using fat for fuel instead of sugar aka glycogen aka carbs.
Thoughts
If you really think about it...it makes perfect sense. I've plateaued with my fat loss and need something to get me around 10%. I'm hoping this is the right method for me.
I feel very full and satisfied on the AD. You can eat all the sugar free jello you want to combat any sweet tooth you have. Eating eggs/sausage/cheese for breakfast is amazing. I've been surprised with how little I even want to have carbs. I'm really happy with the first 6 days. *Except I made this fudge tonight (low carb obviously) and it was way too good. Ate the whole thing!*
Oh and don't believe all that stuff that's out there about fat being bad for you. That's ridiculous unless you're talking about trans fat. That stuff is terrible and do NOT eat it under any circumstances. At least I would not advise one to.
Good. Lift and eat. Eat a lot. You have to create a surplus of calories in your body to gain.Comment

6-3, 217, ~12-14% (I'm about to be 23)
Day 7: 210.5
Maybe 1/2 lb fat lost
I feel really good though. Haven't even been monitoring my cals really. Just trying to get under 30g/carbs a day.

Re: For all you guys wanting to gain muscle, size, etc.
Ok quick question. Is it possible to gain wait by just increasing calorie totals and not necessarily how much fat you intake? I need to gain some weight, but I don't really want it to come on as fat, so would that work or am I just completely wrong on that theory?Fan of....

Re: For all you guys wanting to gain muscle, size, etc.
To gain muscle you can only do it gaining about 1 lb a week. You don't need to eat fat to gain weight. Oh and eating fat will not make you fat.
To gain muscle you need to eat a proper amount of calories and protein. I'd say consume 1g/protein per lb of your body weight. There are several calorie calculators online and you can check those out to get a ball park of how many calories you need to eat.
To gain muscle it is generall advised to eat a surplus of 500 cals a day over your maintenance cals.
Example:
I need 3000 cals/day to maintain my weight while doing my normal activity.
To create a surplus I need to consume more than 3000 cals since I'm burning that throughout the day.
For those trying to lose fat you need to create a deficit. The general consensus is starting at a 500 cal deficit.
3500 cals = 1 lb of fat
500 cals X 7 days = 3500 cals/week = 1 lb of fat loss per week
Short answer to your question:
You are correct in assuming you do not need fat in your diet to gain weight. Any surplus of cals, even if it's from vegetables, will make you gain weight.
You can also lose weight by eating McDonald's everyday. You need to be in a calorie deficit when doing so.
Last note:
Eat foods that are "clean". Try and stick with things that aren't heavily processed and filled with processed sugars. Try and eat whole grains because they provide more nutrients to the body.
Hopefully I hit your question somewhere in there...when you're passionate about something you have a tendency to go on and on...Comment

Re: For all you guys wanting to gain muscle, size, etc.
Ok thanks for explaining it a bit, I think I get it. Another question is with that suggestion I should be getting somewhere between 3200-3300 calories a day. Right now I probably only get like 2000-2500 a day since I've stopped eating fast food and only drink water. Would increasing my intake of calories all of the sudden cause changes I might not want?
Also, do you have any suggestions on how to get my calories that high fairly easily? Like are there any foods that I could eat in a short amount of time a couple of times a day to make up for that difference? I guess what I'm looking for is maybe a high-calorie, low-fat snack or something that can help until I can figure out a good way to change my diet for good. I just need to put on a bit of weight within the next couple of months because I'm closing in on being a little too underweight. I'm hoping to put on close to 10lbs before July.Fan of....

If you're struggling getting in enough cals have a spoonful or two of PB and that's a solid 200-300 cals. Honestly don't be afraid of fat. If you notice yourself starting to put on bad weight then report back. With your metabolism I highly doubt that would happen.Comment
