She was resisting arrest, that doesn't mean that things had to go down how they did. She was in no way a threat to that police officer so how is what he did justified?

But I will agree with you that if a 7 year old was resisting then yes and officer would be justified in trying to get him/her under control using force that is necessary for the situation.

She obviously was a threat, she bit him, which brought him harm. And she was quite hysterical. As I said, although unlikely, she could have grabbed for his gun as well. You guys really do not understand how police work is. I'm a civvy like the rest of you but i've studied and worked with Police as a potential career so I do like to think I understand things a little better than someone who has not.

I'd like to hear some more comments from some real police officers. The job is most certainly not as harmless as some of you guys think, danger can come from any direction and an out of control situation with a hysterical subject is one of the most explosive ones, regardless of size and sex.

Did he not abuse a child by twisting her arms repeatedly when she was clearly not acting rationally. A younger person has a higher chance of acting irrationally in that situation.

Watch the video. She starts out scared but okay, she then says "I didn't do anything"... The officer than instead of explaining to her what she did or finding a way to communicate to her what the situation was starts repeating "put your hands behind your back" ... He then starts twisting her arms (it starts hurting) she begins to lose control of herself.

That officer could have completely avoided the situation. He could have easily cuffed her arms in front, he could have actually acted like a human and not a robot and she probably would have responded.

I'm not saying that it was an easy situation, but saying "put your hands behind your back" wasn't working and in that situation she poses NO threat and all of it could have been avoided.

No because he is doing his job, not abusing a child. Abusing a child is when a parent belts a kid for not eating their dinner. Abusing a child is not when a police officer gives you a command and you respond with disobeying, becoming hysterical and biting him viciously.

A police officer does what he feels is best for the situation and once an officer tells you to do something he does not then change his command because it doesn't suit what you prefer.

The minute you assume this person is a harmless 15 year old is the minute she pulls a knife out of her pocket with her hands cuffed in front of her and stabs the cop. I think you're assuming way too much.

I'm sorry, but when a cop tells me to do something I do it, no matter how much I'm freaking out.

I do agree the pepper spray was a bit much, but he was being as gentle as he could and she still wouldn't put the hands behind her back.

Most police departments cuffing in the front is against policy. For good reason.

He uses his judgment yes, that is what society has given our officers as a means of enforcing the law, it's not a perfect system but it works most of the time. I ask, what is he supposed to do, ask the subject what would they prefer to do? LOL!!

And as for the officer's judgement leading to B, ie comply or face the consequences, yes it is sound logic because once an officer gives you instructions then you need to comply. If it's in violation of rules or your rights then that is not the time to debate it or protest it, and if you do then you deserve the consequences of doing so.

If you feel you were wronged you take it up later with a lawyer, his or her supervisor and/or bring it up at trial to the judge. You don't become hysterical, insist you do things your way and then try to frantically bite the officer.

I understand that she's less of a threat with her hands behind her back but he picked up a random 15 year old girl breaking curfew laws. Obviously, this isn't a 38 year old just out of prison. Not to say she couldn't have a knife in her pocket, but not all situations are the same. Secondly, my main point is he could have avoided the situation altogether. In this situation continually twisting this girl's arm wasn't working and was only going to lead to her reacting the way she did or her arm breaking. Both of these outcomes were avoidable. It was avoidable and he was the adult. Because he's the adult the responsibility lies with him to handle the situation better.

He was arresting her! His job is to arrest her at that point, not reason with her.

"Ok, stop moving and I'll cuff your arms in the front."

I agree completely. Like I said earlier, if all cops acted like this we'd get 15 videos like this everyday. Most of them know how to do there jobs and avoid punching and pepper spraying 80 pound 15 year-old girls.

You're right. She was resisting arrest. He should have sat down with her and given her some milk and cookies and reasoned with her.
