Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
I'm 32 and when I was in school we always started early August for pretty much as long as I can remember.
And then you have the year around schools who also pick up in early August after their last break.
It's really not anything that new.Comment

Maybe not in USA, but in Canada, I've never heard of schools which start in August. It's always the day after labor day when schools started back.Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
LA County changed it to early August recently. Used to start in early September if I recall correctly.
When I went to public school in Fresno, I'm pretty sure it was early September as well. Maybe the last couple days of August.Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
Strange to hear other places like that. For me,it always went:
September(day after labor day)-December(up to a week before Christmas) was school, then 2 weeks off for Christmas(later changed to Winter,to be "PC") break. School resumed no later than a week after new years. Then it went until March break(mid march), and then from rest of March until late June there was school again.
High school was slightly diff since it had semesters, but it was only like a week or so diff per semester than elementary school.Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
School always started in the Early/Middle of August here in Florida. I know teachers report back here in Tampa on the 11th and students the 18th. I always liked finishing in the end of May though, June/July always felt like good summer months if that even makes sense.Last edited by Chrisksaint; 07-29-2014, 02:05 AM.Saints, LSU, Seminoles, Pelicans, Marlins, LightningComment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
Never started earlier than probably August 22nd. Generally schools around here start last week of August and end 1st week of June give or take a week or so. School in my district did start a bit early my senior year of HS and graduation was May 27, but that was because they were doing a huge renovation project in the Middle/High school that included the addition of a new wing and they wanted a long building season so the next year didn't start until the 1st if not 2nd week of September.Steelers : IX, X, XIII, XIV, XL, XLIII

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
I'm a teacher, so I'll chime in. School were I am used to start the last week of August but has been pushed up to mid August though in truth should start the first week of September, maybe even the second week.
I know the reasons that it starts when it does and it's all stupidity. Having worked for it for fourteen years now, I can tell u nothing is dumber or more *** backwards than the public school system.Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
In Texas I randomly remember starting on the 18th of August one year. I think they passed a law, or maybe just a recommendation to start after Labor Day to cut out those extra 2 weeks of 100+ degree heat and help save on energy bills. Used to get out before Memorial Weekend, but now it's in early June.Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
I cannot understand my neighbors. They'll start mowing and after a couple swipes will quit and head off somewhere. Then 6 hours later come back and trim hedges. The next day they'll finish mowing.
That's not WRGMG.
I'm not exactly sure where the property line is. On the side of the house/yard that we share our fence comes out from behind the house about 4 feet so our "side yard" is very small. Every time they mow they mow over to our sidewalk and to the side of our house. I guess if I wasn't so OCD about my yard I wouldn't care as much, but when he's blowing grass and **** all over the side of the house and onto the side walk its a little annoying.

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
I feel like every time I cut my grass my neighbor will purposely cut his like three days later so that his is ever so much shorter than mine. I instinctively wanna go back and cut mine so that mine is the shortest. And eventually it goes back and forth like a bugs bunny or pink panther cartoon.Comment
