Exactly. Thus the saying, "defense wins championships." I'd say gmss pretty much hit the nail on the head; everyone has prolific offenses these days, but great defense is the difference maker.Comment

The fact that I keep seeing new stories every day about T.I., Mayweather or Tiny.
She's ugly as all hell and I'm tired of seeing her face.--

It doesn't matter if you can score 35 when opposing teams continually score 42 (random numbers brought to you by Professor Steiner).--

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
The overuse/misuse of the word "trolling".
Let's get this straight. Trolling is deliberate. You are only a troll if you have intentions of being a troll, with the sole purpose of provoking emotional responses from people.
Glad to clear that up
Another gear grinder for me is when people on the internet tell other people on the internet to "calm down/relax". Sometimes they might be right, but there is such a thing as being passionate AND calm. Oftentimes, passion is confused with anger. There is a difference.Comment

How nobody wants to be the first to arrive at anything.
I think I'm just going to start telling my friends to come a half hour before I actually expect them to come when I'm the organizer of the next event.University of Minnesota Golden Gopher Hockey

These new(ly re-released) Chocodile "Twinkie", they aren't a damn Twinkie. If you are going to sell something as a chocolate covered Twinkie, you should probably cover a Twinkie in chocolate and not an unfrosted Zinger.Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
I've got one friend who is quite unique in that he arrives beyond early for everything. I love him to death but sometimes I really would rather not have him over too early so I sometimes tell him a time wayyy later than the real time. He's the kind of friend that he'll ask what time should he come over and I'll say 7, he'll say ok I'll be there at 6:30 but then at 5:45 he'll send me an "on my way" text and he's at my door at 6. Lol.
Edit: Had to add that this guy knows of his early arrivals and it's sort of a running joke and now at times if I'm not home I have to tell him I'm not home so he doesn't bother arriving early. And as the joke grew, one time I told him something like "be there at 8, not at 7 cuz I'll be having sex at 7."....he proceeded to tell me "No problem, I'll be there at 7:02, should give u plenty of time". ...Lmao best friends lolLast edited by SilverBullet1929; 07-26-2014, 10:26 PM.Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
I don't know what kind of events you guys are talking about but I get annoyed with people who get mad at me if I don't show up at the set time for certain things over the weekend.
Don't get me wrong, if my attendance is necessary for something to start then by all means I'll be there when I need to be.
But if I'm meeting someone at a bar or were meeting for a tailgate before a 1 oclock Sunday game I'm going to get there when I get there. My attendance has no bearing on your enjoyment of said event.
I deal with that **** everyday through the week at work, on the weekends I'm going to do what I need to do and not worry about when to be somewhere.
Yes, I know this probably belongs in the uncommon opinion thread but I have a friend that does this to me on a regular basis and he really grinds my gears.Comment

Not a huge deal obviously, but I always think to myself, "so why didn't you just say you weren't gonna be here til 7:45?"University of Minnesota Golden Gopher Hockey

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
This recent dumb**** trend with sports fans and writers whining about "hottest of hot takes" in a sarcastic fashion any time something happens.
It's *easily* more annoying than the dumb comments themselves.
Also, regarding those trite sports sayings like "defense wins championships" or "the best team always wins" or whatever....yeah sure, if you're going to think that the results of sports are determined solely by the way teams are structured. In reality, there's so much that goes into determining the champion of a sport or league, namely luck, officiating, and health. The best team doesn't always win. The hottest and luckiest team who has everything go right at the right time always wins.
This is no more obvious than every single year in the NCAA tournament. Are we going to argue that some of these "cinderellas" are *actually* better teams than they beat just because they beat them that day? Were the 2006 Cardinals *actually* the best team in baseball that year? Were they the best team in baseball in 2011? Not really, but the circumstances broke their way in unbelievable fashion and they rode them all the way to a World Series win again. All the credit in the world to them and any team who does, that's what they're supposed to do. But that doesn't necessarily mean they're the best. The Seahawks this last year are an example of defense winning championships *and* the best team winning. Germany in the World Cup too, at least about the best *team* winning.
I know we like to live in this sports fantasy world where everything is determined solely by the strengths and structures of the teams involved, but they aren't. And I know we like to imagine that luck, officiating, and health are just magically things that "good teams overcome" but sometimes they don't and it's not heresy to admit that those things matter even more than strengths and structures of teams.Last edited by TheMatrix31; 07-27-2014, 06:00 AM.Comment
