Yes, this too. Especially since for me it's usually a video chat. Ugh.

We call to let her know and to bring a ladder or help us change the battery.

But instead she tells us that it's an "electric smoke detectors and there is no battery attached."

      Seriously?

She then calls us back and says that after researching the internet she has concluded it does not have a battery.. wtf?

Then she says that if it does go off again to check the fuse box and we can turn off the fuse for it.

Can this chick be any dumber?
Some can be wired into the house so they don't have batteries (I believe)...

The ones with batteries are usually the cheap ones that aren't wired in (like what we have at home), and we have to do the batteries once a year or else in winter it's a cascade of dying smoke detector chirping in the middle of the night (failing batteries in cold end up dying more, so always happens at night)

Unfortunately, this is a recurring issue, as no one seems to want to read my emails (and I communicate better through text than speech).

I know this pain, my boss is in Michigan so it's hard for us here in Pittsburgh to communicate at times.

I agree, some can be wired. and I entertained her idea for about 5 seconds before it did the "low battery chirp". It then did the dead battery effect on the alarm, so I KNOW 100% that it is not wired, and it's the battery.

The best part? The part that got me really angry? Her response of:

Scott and I lived there for years and we never had any problems with that detector. We never even changed the battery, so I'm sure it's not the battery.

Gotcha...I totally agree she's crazy. Sucks that you can't just easily change it yourself cause it's so high up. Who puts a detector there? In my experience they go where it's within range to change.

Well, because heat rise the ceiling really is the best place for them. Can be a pain though when you live in an older building with high ceiling. My apartment, for example, has ceiling probably about 10 feet high. Though I do have a ladder for when smoke detector batteries or ceiling light bulbs need changed, I have to have someone come do it for me because I can't hold my balance on a ladder.

Yeah, i get that...they're all on ceilings, just not on the apex of my 50 foot high vaulted ceiling (for instance)...

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?

They can be electric and still have a battery. My alarm was doing the dying chirp sound but when I went to replace the battery I saw it was wired to the wall. I figured something else must be wrong with it and tried to vacuum any openings to suck out dust or any particles that might be clogging the sensor and triggering false chirps. They also have it positioned right outside the bathroom so I need to put a towel over it so the moisture doesn't set it off.

After the battery chirps started getting really bad and I couldn't figure out what was wrong, I unplugged the hardwire from the wall and it still chirped lol, that's when I noticed the hidden battery slot

                      .

This doesn't sound too crazy tbh as I only ever bought nike socks, etc for football.

Never heard of anyone caring about their laces tho

I have to get some 9 volts soon and just go through and replace all of them at home. If I don't then it just goes one by one on different days waking us up at 3am. Sucks hardcore to wake up and hear that beep.
