Cops who text and drive, though in their case they're usually seen on their laptops while driving. Doesn't really grind my gears all that much, but it's hypocritical nonetheless...

I might just be naive to it and there's a good enough reason they need to do that, but it's a bad look either way.

They are entering info on a vehicle......likely checking for wants or warrants on the owner.
            They are not on RedTube.

Plate readers are making that obsolete now.....so you'll get your wish of not seeing that most likely....but now there won't be one single vehicle that they pass that isn't checked for even the smallest parking ticket!

I know that is one thing they can do on their laptops, but I was hoping there was something more serious they need to do as well. Just checking on some cars info? That's not a very justifiable reason to be driving while using the laptop. Sitting at a stoplight and randomly checking some cars info? Ok that's fine.

Not just info on the vehicle.....info on the owner(and possibly the person driving it)...THROUGH the vehicle info.... for wants and warrants.

I know I've been out of P.D. for over 20 years....but I'm pretty sure that's still classified as "serious"(since you can nail felons this way who have outstandings)

I've been one since their inception, so I think I know where the real ones are. But the city, as a whole, is extremely fair weather when it comes to the Panthers.

It's a good thing I waited till I got home to check what that was, heh.

I don't see what excuse a cop has to "text and drive" over anybody else, though. You don't know what emergency I might have to read or respond to. Cops are no different. If there was an accident, especially something that causes a death, it makes it no different.

You know what really grinds my gears?

Apparently I used the remainder of my data while I was sleeping.

The wife and I fell asleep using HBO GO on my phone. Shouldn't matter, because we're on wifi. However, the wifi signal down here is bad, constantly going from 2 bars to 1. Sometimes I'll notice it bounces to LTE but not often. That mainly happens from 5-8PM on weekdays, peak hours.

But somehow, from 2:47 AM to 3:17 AM I used up over 25% of my data putting me over for the month.

Googled to see if anyone else has had this issue and a bunch of stuff came up for iOS9 having a wifi assist feature, but I'm on iOS8 still. It must still be compensating the low signal wifi with cellular data or that constant up and down is doing it. I'm no tech expert but I know some stuff. Anyone have an explanation?

Devices will always look for the stronger signal when you are streaming. So if the LTE signal is stronger then your WIFI signal, it will use the LTE. I suggest you buy a stronger router.

Interesting. I thought it would tell me when it's using LTE because the wifi icon will change to LTE. But maybe if it's switching back and forth so often, the display doesn't keep up.

I ended up making sure data hogging apps like Netflix and HBO GO are not allowed to use cellular data. If that means it cuts out, it's worth saving the $15 for an extra GB of data. If it becomes too much of a nuisance, I'm gonna have to put some money into a stronger router like you said.

                            Thanks!

Did iOS8 not have that feature at all?

That has been a feature on Android for a while now. Maybe it's always been an option, and at some point you accidentally turned yours on? I realized pretty quick I should turn mine off because it would constantly be switching connections and notify me when I was re-connected. Got pretty annoying. This is on Android though.

As far as I can tell, it's always been part of iOS but they introduced an on/off switch for it in iOS9 called WiFi Assist. Because apparently it's been "assisting" itself to my cellular data. Honestly, I think it's one of those features that's not that cool to talk about on a features list but has always been there under different names. To me, limiting specific apps as it allows me to do in iOS8 is better then turning it off globally for all apps. Like Tapatalk doesn't use up much data in normal use, so I don't want to have to turn it on or off every time I want to use it when I'm not at home or in the office. It's those few times when I'm waiting in line or whatever where I'm using my data to check scores or OS.

I'm pretty good with messing with my settings so I'm not constantly roaming for WiFi signals or Bluetooth and stuff like that. This one caught me off guard though. Mainly because I usually see when it goes to LTE. It's still odd that it was using cellular data for such a prolonged time that it ate over 25% of mine (I pay for 2GB/month between two phones) within 30 minutes.
