Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
I never had a problem using self checkout machines, but my first job out of high school was as a cashier and I'm not foreign with computer screens.
A lot of times when you see the Self checkout line being held up it's usually older people, or it's a System issue where it doesn't recognize a Bar code in the system and a Cashier has to go double check a price, or input a barcode through a over ride.Minnesota Vikings

I like using self-checkouts simply because the cashier/bagger don't know how to bag groceries or I'd just end up bagging my own stuff anyway.

I'm a firm believer everybody that works in retail should take a bagging 101 class. The amount of cashiers who can't bag is alarming. Last week I had a cashier put 10 3.5oz glade candles in one bag and she didn't even double bag it. Usually though I have cashiers who put food items with non food items in the same bag.Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
I typically put my stuff together so they bag it together. Like all meats together vegetables and canned goods...
The main issue with self checkout I find:
The software is slow and the anti fraud stuff slows it down. It has to weight everything when you put it in the bag takes a few moments.
That and I had a barcode that was bent recently so I had to get help.
I don't think it's an age thing: it's just people who don't know how to use it or don't have anything else to do with their time so they are nonchalant.

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
My only complaint about the self checkout lanes is when I'm buying booze and the attendant needs to come check my ID but she's off in lala land and couldn't care less about coming over. They go out of their way to avoid eye contact too, which is ironic since that's how I spent the rest of my store trip
Don't complain about that. Be happy that you can buy booze at a grocery store.
When my coworkers from Kalamazoo come here they can't comprehend not being able to buy beer or liquor from a gas station.Comment
