Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
I wonder what FB will be in like 10 years. I feel like the average age of the most active people on there has doubled in the last 5-10 years.
I'll throw ads in as a gear grinder on Instagram. They're pretty damn intrusive on FB too.Comment

This one isn't a huge deal but it still annoys me. It's the people that can't stop at a red light without looking at their phone. Light turns green , they are still looking at their phone , finally after 30 seconds I beep my horn and they get pissed at me. If you're that addicted to your phone seek help or at least pay attention to the world around you. Look up every now and then.
If I get a text while I'm driving I'll quickly check it at a red light, but I'm always aware of when the light changes.Comment

This is my 5yo first year playing tee/coach pitch baseball. He's playing in the City league and they pay to have the MLB affiliate uniforms for all of the kids. Our kid's team is the St. Louis Cardinals this year and you see everything like the Rockies, Braves, Redsox, etc.
When we signed up we asked about putting our son with certain people we know who are playing and they told us that you can't decide what team you play on. I'm okay with that because it prevents team-stacking in a City league, but he still ended up on a team with one of his best friends from school.
So we played about 5 games and then a few weeks ago we played against a team that had a logo I knew wasn't an actual team. This team was really really good. Every single kid on their team was smashing it to the fence and you guys know as well as I do that when a ball hits the outfield with a bunch of 5 year olds fielding it.. they are going to score. These kids had a permanent green light to run.. hell on one play a base runner passed his own team mate trying to get home. It was getting out of hand and they were up big. Our kids were just outmatched and you could tell they weren't having fun and were intimidated.
I asked my wife about the other team and she said two of their coaches work for the park. So I know my boss at work coaches a team for his son and I was talking to him about it and he said once the season starts it's impossible for any of the teams to get time on the actual field to practice because there's always something scheduled and they deny everyone, but when his team was getting pictures taken a few weeks ago he saw the same team out there practicing on the field and a few days prior he had asked about practice time and they told him it wasn't allowed and the fields were locked outside of games.
So these kids are the Dragons and have green and black uniforms and honestly look like a really good travel ball team and they are smashing every team they play in this league. We had a game where it was raining the other night and a few of our kids were sick and we only had 5 who could play. We were playing this team again and these people showed up with pop up tents and everything like a bunch of professionals. We told them we didn't have enough to play and this jackwagon coach says, "If you guys are scared about the score we can turn the scoreboard off and play for fun." I couldn't help myself and I'm like.. "It's raining, we're getting a forfeit either way, and you guys have us outnumbered 11-5... why would we put our kids out there in this weather and play this thing?." The coach kept insisting, but we're like nah we don't want to forfeit, but it's the best thing to do. It was 7pm and raining at this point and they still didn't call the game so we forfeited.
My gear grinder is that two of their coaches work for the Park and Rec, they have a totally different logo than any other team out there, and every single kid on their team is an all star little league player. It's pretty clear they stacked this team and get special privileges and it sucks it's not fair for all the other kids. I'm not losing sleep, complaining to anyone, etc.. just another friendly reminder that life isn't fair in many aspects or at any age. I don't mention how it's not fair to my kid or anything.. we just use it as a teaching tool and stuff.
I told my wife it's only going to get worse as our kids get older and keep playing sports.Last edited by AUChase; 05-13-2019, 10:11 AM.Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
People who either don't understand or have a weird/aggressive insecurity about zipper merges. I'm not talking about 10 cars waiting in one lane, and then you try to cut in front of all of them. I'm talking about a merge from two lanes to one right after a red light and cars won't let you over even if you were at the red light way before them. Like how much time are you losing by letting one car merge in front of you? People here act like it's life or death.
The next one is more of a pet peeve than gear grinder.... people who are turning left out of a parking lot on to a busy roadway and choose take a exit without a stop light, when there's a stop light in either the same parking lot or on an adjoining road way.
That may be confusing so here an example:Spoiler
During morning and afternoon commutes lanes in both directions are very busy so taking the green route to the stop light is much easier, then depending on two different lanes of traffic to let you go. But people do it for whatever reason...

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
We probably could have a whole driving grind my gears thread lol.
Some people are just ridiculously in rushes. I've driven on single lane roads (1 going each way) in the past where people actually swerved AROUND my car to get ahead. Not cause I was going slow, but because I wasn't going like 10 above the speed limit. Even more dangerous when it's happened at a stop light. The second light goes green, a car just speeds up from behind, swerves around and just goes ahead.
And some people decide to just park where they feel like it. You're blocking the road, why do you think it's a good idea to stop there? Sometimes it happens in single lane roads(where you can't even pass because they're blocking the street), other times they block one lane so cars going both directions have to basically take turns going.
It sucks how these people aren't the ones who get tickets, but people who have a visitor over to their house can get a ticket for parking 5 mins longer than they should on a residential street when nobody complained about that (which is more a city problem. Only allowed 3 hour parking on weekends. As if you're only having guests over for 3 hours on a weekend? And there's 0 proof you've been there 3 hours or 30 mins. Tickets can just be handed out because they feel like it/need to fill quota)Last edited by Majingir; 05-14-2019, 11:39 AM.Comment
