Don't even get me started on silly Smartphone technology. There are times when I'm a few letters into typing a word and it already correctly predicts my word, but the more I type into it, the more it seems to want to think I suddenly want another word in its place. The same is true with Chrome's predictive searches/URL options as well.

Add this to the long list of driving grind my gears posts.

And not just residential neighborhoods, but anywhere in general.

You drive the speed limit or go even a few over, and there's still someone on your tail, wanting to go faster.

Its why I don't get when governments want to raise speed limits at times. Yes, people are regularly driving a few over the speed limit, but raising the speed limit won't mean those people will no longer be breaking the law, it just means they'll now go a few over the new limit

Similar story with lowering the limit in school zones (which is what they're slowly doing around where I live). The real goal is getting people to drive the number they want. In this case, you're making the number so low, fully expecting people to go faster than it, but not as fast as they were under the old limit.

In movies, anytime I see someone driving and they turn to the passenger and keep driving, at considerable speed, with their heads turned (while talking or whatever) for at least like 10 seconds straight without even glancing back at the road.

Get the **** out of here. I can barely, barely, glance for 1 second to the passenger seat and I absolutely don't like to do it. I know it is a movie and "suspension of belief" and all that but it makes me so mad

Also, when they're driving manual transmission cars and they're shifting furiously while going flat-out in a straight line when they were already at speed. What are they doing? Going up to 7th to save gas?

Haha yep I mentioned this one eight years ago, but I took it one step even further...

                  - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

When, in a movie, a driver gets into an accident or nearly hits somebody because they were looking at the person in the passenger seat.

Nobody ever does this, I'm sorry. I know people might glimpse over for half a second for whatever reason, but you don't have a conversation, stare into their eyes for five seconds, and then let the passenger be the person to notice something in front of them, point and shout "LOOK OUT," and have them swerve or brake just before possibly hitting something.

I don't like it when it becomes a plot point, especially. Knowing that the film's fate would have been so much different had it not been for an idiotic driver is pretty annoying. I wish writers would ditch this concept completely.

LOL they're likely downshifting to accelerate, but I know what you mean. The editors had to transition shots somehow I guess.

Wow, everything old is new again.

Yeah, I know they're trying to "show" that they're downshifting to accelerate, but most cars, once above 40-50MPH, if you really want to punch it, you probably aren't going to go down below 4th or 5th (depending on how many gears you have and what your gear ratios are). Redlining it in 2nd probably doesn't buy you too much extra once you're doing 80 (other than a lot of smoke).

I've run basically an entire racetrack in 4th (6-speed manual car), and while I wasn't setting track records, other than in and out of corners, there was never a need to downshift. Definitely not on the straightaways when I was already at speed.

Edit: Just realized this whole recent conversation fits in nicely with the thread title

The school limit thing is messing with me lately, there are two different sections with specific "drive 25" signs that light up during school hours near me. But schools have been shut down for months. Shouldn't the signs be turned off? I try to abide by the rule presented to me, but everyone else zooms around me like I'm a jackass, but the rule is still there! If the speed limit is 40 and the school limit lights up as 25, I feel like i have to slow down, even though everyone else hates me for it

I feel ALL school zones should be like that.

It's normal "speed when no sign is posted", except when the light is flashing.

Driving through a school zone on a regular weekend at the school zone speed seems so pointless. From 8am-5pm in all school zones it should be like that.

But during a time like this, I'm guessing nobody is around to fix anything anyways.

I hate that. I've been on highways with 70 MPH speed limits and have had people do this.

It's the worst in the school zones because you know you're going about as slow as you'll ever go in a non traffic situation, but you cant go faster, and you can tell the car behind wants you going faster, either not realizing or caring that the speed limit is slow.

Scariest situation I had in a moment like that was a car swerving around me to get ahead. Theres 1 lane going each way, so they cut across the yellow line on the left hand side to do this. Another time someone on the same road went to the right of my car, into the bike lane, to attempt to do this.

Its not why I did it, but I've since gotten cameras for my car. Front and back. You never know when someone will try something stupid and it ends bad.

People just don't care. Bolded part reminded me of a local story a few months back where speed bumps were installed in a road to deter speeders but people just started driving into the bike lane to bypass the speed bumps.
