My issues with speed bumps tend to be 2-fold:
1) When they don't make them abundantly visible from far away. The point is to get people to slow down; if I don't see or notice them (some of them can be very subtle and are not painted a different color from the road), it doesn't do any good and all that happens is that I get my spine and teeth rattled and I didn't even have a chance to slow down
2) If you have a car with low clearance, you will get a front fender scratch no matter how slowly you are going. I always look first and make sure it's safe, but given the chance, I will drive around speed bumps as well for this very reason. I don't go any faster than I would if I were driving over it, but I don't want to scrape the front fender on the pavement.
