Social media feeds that are 50% stuff you followed/joined and 50% recommended/popular BS.

I joined reddit because I like some of the pages based on my interests, but now every other thing I see on my home page is a tiktok, something borderline disturbing, something political, or something you'd see on ridiculousness. And if you click "see less of this" it is replaced by something similar, until the thing you didn't want to see is eventually cycled back in. I'm fine with the ads, but can do without the stupid viral nonsense.

I heard a zoo keeper using this line on a liberal zoo protestor once complaining that the elephant enclosure wasn't big enough (they have four elephants and there is PLENTY of space for all of them) and that elephants in the wild can travel over 7 miles in a day.

I know a lot of people here don't understand why people are spoiler-sensitive, but I'm the exact opposite where I don't get why people can't just respect the one request to not let them know about anything when they are specific about it.

There is a specific football game that a student asked me about today, and I was already in the "I haven't seen it yet so please don't say anything" mode. What I am asking for is that they drop it and move on. I explained to them (and I'll explain to you all) that I normally don't get Sundays to be able to watch games because I coach softball and we are in the midst of a tournament all day long, so I have to record RedZone and certain games that I want to watch and play them back, avoiding literally everything along the way (fantasy, e-mails, texts, etc.).

Then my student carries forward because **** him, and starts by saying: "Don't even bother man, it's not worth it." I'm already now going: "DUDE!" just begging him to stop. Then he proceeds forward: "I mean I'm just saying that because I'm a [insert team] fan."

Now in what way does this guy believe that what he is saying is not spoiling the game? This already diminished my excitement to watch it by at least 70%.

For those who don't understand it, I'd like to watch the games as if they're live. Obviously I can't, but I do everything I can in the meanwhile. If somebody says "It's not worth it," that gives me consideration that it's a blowout, not much offense, or whatever. Either way, I'm no longer expecting some overtime epicness or something of the sort, and subverting my expectation if that does happen is not any more helpful either. The point is I now know the outcome of the game, even if I don't know how they got there. They throw a touchdown? Great, I expected it since they're going to win. They throw a pick? No worries, they're going to win.

It's just... ****ing stop. I want to run away from the conversation then and there without them saying anything. Can people please just understand that? Sure, it would get a little ridiculous if I say: "I don't even want to know if it played or was postponed for some reason," but it is somewhat to that extent because I simply want to watch it as if it was live.

I can even go back to the Oscars about this. I couldn't catch it live, and my mom said: "Did you hear about the Oscars controversy?" She didn't say anything specific and she was clear about it as if it exonerated her, but I swear... when Will Smith strikes Chris Rock in that moment, it didn't faze me at all. I sat there going: "Well, this must be what she was talking about." I was sitting there waiting for it, and then it happened. I was very ho-hum about it. I wish I could've just let it be for myself.

Anyway, if people can't understand it, they have to respect it. It's just rude and inconsiderate.

EDIT: By the way, I still haven't seen the specific game yet.

yeah it's weird because I like to pause live TV through my antenna, and my friend who is also a sports nut knows it, it drives her crazy I don't watch live, and when something happens she'll message me "are you watching live?"

and that's supposed to be a way to avoid spoiling things, but the fact that she asked if I'm watching live signals to me that something just happened

If she asks at the beginning of the game, that's one thing, but if it's late and she asks, let's say I'm 20 minutes behind, I'll note the point that something happened and look for it, ruining the spontaneity

I know what you mean so, so badly. I also hate when I'm watching the Diamondbacks play the Giants because my grandpa will text right as the game ends, so I'll chuck the phone in the other room and put it on vibrate for those games haha.

But yes, back to what you're saying I have the perfect story that works right with it. I'm in San Diego on vacation with my family watching the Giants game on TV (4-5 of us cramped on a couch), and although we were trying to watch live we were using MLB.TV and it was having some hiccups with the Internet, so we were about five minutes delayed. This was an impactful time of the season and every moment mattered, yada-yada. Basically, we were totally into the game.

My little sister looks at her phone when it vibrates. "Oh shoot, Allie's at the game. She just told me what happened." I retort. "KELLY! Don't say that!" Both she and my mom were adamant that because they didn't say what specifically happened that it shouldn't be a spoiler and I should calm my ****. I share my side of it saying the fact that we know something happens is enough, and their comeback is something happens all the time and we wouldn't even know what it was when it does happen, etc. A few minutes later in that inning, the Giants hit some sort of bases clearing double where the guy crashed into the wall but almost had the ball, and our room was absolute crickets. Duane Kuiper is yelling on the call, the crowd is going nuts, and we're all sitting there like, "Oh, okay." I of course have to chew out that specific moment and say: "There, that was super exciting wasn't it y'all?" Somehow I still lost the argument in my mom's eyes even though she as well had no emotional response to the moment when she absolutely should have.

I can't blame human nature for somebody responding in the moment, though. Unless I make them aware of the situation, I understand if somebody wants to reach out and ask that question. I know better than that so I try and wait things out when possible or make sure that I message them at the beginning of the game to know when/how they're tuning in. As it turns out, I'm one of my only people I know who doesn't watch things just in the moment, so that works out pretty well. I do let others know though, specifically my fantasy groups.

I even sent out a team chat to my softball players and parents and warned them, as many of the folks will listen/watch games on their phones during the tournaments: "By the way, if you spoil anything to me, I swear I'll bench your daughter." I'll give the tongue emojis or whatever to say it in a "just kidding, but not really" kind of way, but I just want to make them aware. They teased me about it a little by slipping it to the umpire, and then he yelled out "The 49ers score is 68 to 0, oh goodness!" I'm playful about things like that so long as they are just as in the dark as I am.

Anyway, it's just a common courtesy. I know to avoid certain outlets during that time, and that was the last few minutes of the final period of the day for me. I literally almost got out of there unscathed. I can't believe how close I was.

Regardless of how I'm watching (NFL Sunday Ticket To Go or some other form of streaming) I'm always going to be a few seconds behind and I have friends in the Pittsburgh market who will text during the games sometimes. Just hearing the notification come through, even if I don't know it is them texting me, makes me think "something is about to happen."

I always like to think about how the animals involved in human events have no idea what's going on. When a horse is coming down the final stretch about to win the Triple Crown, he's probably thinking "I hope I can stop running soon. I want apples."

Regardless of how I'm watching (NFL Sunday Ticket To Go or some other form of streaming) I'm always going to be a few seconds behind and I have friends in the Pittsburgh market who will text during the games sometimes. Just hearing the notification come through, even if I don't know it is them texting me, makes me think "something is about to happen."

Ordered an item online using a visa gift card I had.

The payment bounced for some reason even though the card had more than enough on it.

I ended up using the card on another store selling the same item and it worked fine.

But now the other store is emailing me to update my payment. I told them I'll just cancel the order, and they're like "We can't do that, if you want to cancel, call our Customer service line"

So they want ME to go out of my way to cancel a purchase I'm not gonna bother paying for? How do I benefit from spending who knows how long on the phone to cancel an order that I won't be billed for since I'm not even using a credit card or anything like that.

Gift cards do suck.

I can't believe there was even a time (at least here) where companies were even allowed to charge fees on cards that were inactive.

Although even visa gift cards still expire. In what world is something which is the equivalent of cash allowed to expire? Imagine paying with money and being like "sorry, that bill expired last month".

All these do is force you to spend money at places you probably didn't want to. Even in this case, I found some visa gift cards which expire by the end of the year, so now I'm just trying to use them up on online purchases. And it doesn't help when some sites I use only let you pay using a single card, even if the remaining balance is less than the purchase.
