Even better when someone comes into the restaurant on the phone, gets seated while on the phone, and then gets mad when you don't go over until they're off the phone. **** you, dude - not waiting on your ******* until you're off your ****ing phone.

Agreed, as my grandfather would have said:

I dont get it. I dont really use my phone in stores (or ever) but I dont look at people waiting in line for coffee and think to myself "what an *******, hes talking to someone on his phone instead of giving his undivided attention to handing over 2 bucks to a cashier."

Maybe Im weird and just can't see the d-baggery in it.

I worked retail in high school and some in college. Trust me when I say, everyone who has worked and been in that position probably views it as such.

Yeah - it's just rude. At least tell the person to hold on, lower the phone for twenty-five seconds to place your order and pay and then step out of line to get back on the phone and wait.

In the same vain, emergency vehicles that are on roads or in locations with a lot of traffic where you can't pull over and just lay on the horn and flash their lights at you, as if you can magically move. A year or two ago I was coming home from school in downtown. The road has a large concrete median in the middle. I was in the turn lane on the left with people in front of me, people in the lane to the right of me. There was no where to go. Some cop flies up with his lights and siren going and just lays on the horn when he gets up to the cars. We're at a red light, I can't move, people to the right of me have parked cars to the right of them, so they can't move. Not sure what the guy thought was going to happen. Maybe he thought honking would turn his car into a hovercraft. Just wait till the light turns green so we can get through the intersection and out of the way! Or, you know, take one of the side streets a block over that doesn't have this problem.

It's because usually when the person is on their phone, they aren't paying attention, or they **** up and then have to stop and fix the problem, or they take their sweet ol' time because they are talking to so-and-so rather than keeping the line moving. This is why at Subway they say no phones while you are ordering. It is just common sense. The d-baggery is the icing on the cake.

Yes, that's what I meant. The people who contort their necks to try and hold their phone and then fumble around for their form of payment all while still talking. Then if the clerk has a question they go "huh" and act like it's an inconvenience to their phone call.

Happened at the gas station yesterday prompting my post. I don't even think it's the first time I've posted this in here.

When I used to work as a salesperson who worked on commission only and my customer would walk in talking on the phone, that was the worst. Just put your phone down for a second and let me greet you, so that I can see if you've been in our store before and are working with another salesperson, etc.

This happened to me one time (well more than once, but this is the one I remember the most). Customer comes in on the phone and basically gave me the "hold on one minute finger". So I fiddle my thumbs for 10 minutes, waiting for them to get off the phone, only to be told, "I've been working with so & so". Meanwhile, the next customer that comes in (who should have been my customer) buys 10k worth of furniture. There goes 600-700 down the drain.

A little common courtesy and understanding goes a long way. Unfortunately most people now days are a bunch of narcissistic, self-absorbed dbags who can't get off the phone for 20 seconds so others can do their jobs efficiently.

I don't know if I've told you guys lately, but I'm sooo glad to be out of retail.

Much better than the full time work any 5 days a week work week. Not having a 2 day weekend was the wooooorst.
