First, we had to combat lice. Now, she has pheumonia.

While I know the flu/being sick are unavoidable and you might not even know your kid is sick... but not finding bugs in your kid's hair? Does your 3 year old either not take baths or bath him/herself? Come on now...

Most parents probably have no choice, it's either send their kid to school, or have to stay home from work and take care of them.

When kids get older though, many times they do go to school when sick and it's not by choice,it's the teachers fault cause if a student misses class and/or a test, they have to get caught up on everything themselves, so people would rather just show up sick then come back a day or two later with lots more to do.

And I get that... I know it isn't easy for people to call in sick to work... My wife's work always gave her guilt trips which usually meant I would take off the next day and so forth... But we also don't send our child to school if there isvany sign of a cold or flu...

My brother and his wife could flat out careless about sending their sick kids to school. This means they can have time for themselves and let other people take care of their sick kids...

My brother can take any days off he wants and his wife calls in sick if she is tired or any other stupid, selfish reason... They do for themselves but don't make sacrifices for their kids... Those are the people I am referring to and I am sure there are many more out there...

When I was a kid, in my family, it would be a cold day in hell before we missed a day of school; sick or not. Dad wasn't having any of that. If we could walk, we went to school.

          The lice thing is tough.

Kids catch it for no reason. You can't blame a kid for having lice and asking if they bathe or wash their hair and then also tell us your kid caught lice.

          Think about what you're saying.

I don't think they have, but they certainly can if they want to. Considering they outright change contracts on their end without negotiation then I'm inclined to believe they have absolute power over their product and service.

In my school district if you missed 10 days of school without a doctor's note saying you were sick then you couldn't graduate. One of the stupidest rules I've ever heard of. Not every family wants to go pay for a doctor's visit because their kid has a cold/flu.

My parents didn't care if I went to school; they only cared if I got good grades. I would routinely miss 30-40 days a year and still get A's until the rule was passed.

I suppose I get that. But I truly don't think that they would get away with that for long. It's highly illegal. Not that spying isn't, but something like that would be far more noticeable.

I think the 10 days (or some number around there) is a law in some (maybe all?) states. Parents can be charged along with the child for truancy and have to pay fines.

I would think the rules and laws are in place because most kids who miss that many days are up to no good and don't have good grades. You are probably part of the 1% that voluntarily skipped 30-40 days and got good grades.

You're right. I should have rephrased my concern as I know having lice has nothing to do with cleaniness.

My point was moreso parents finding lice on their own kids especially if is bad. My nephew had a bad infestation... The eggs can be hard to see but he had a bunch of bugs... His parents didn't even know until my wife saw a bug fall from his head... IMO, this could have been seen and washing a kid's hair would have been an easy way to see and feel..

This whole lice thing was frustrating. We kept her out of school for a while because 1) we didn't want her to infect anyone and 2) it was school policy.

I remember in high school, if you missed a test or something, you needed to bring a note from the doctor saying why you missed the test. Doesn't seem so bad, the problem however.....you had to pay a fair amount of money to get a note! Yes..doctors charge for a note like that. You can show your school the prescription the doctor wrote for you, but that makes no difference, you need to bring a note in which you pay money for!

So basically...people just came to school sick because their parents would rather they go to school then have to go back to the doctors, wait for over an hour, then pay money, just to get a note to do a test that was worth 5-10% of their grade.

My mom made us go to school unless we were vomiting profusely. I used to try to lie and say I threw up but moms always know when you lie.

I hated going to school sick, it was embarrassing to sit at my desk coughing throughout the day or sniffing/blowing my nose. I was miserable

The rule is in place to prevent people like you abusing it. 30-40 days is abuse regardless of your grades.

Part of school is preparing you for life.

You can't just say I'm not going to work today. School is an obligation just as much as work is.

I get 6 sick days and even I consider that a lot.

30-40 days? You can probably thank yourself and your parents for that rule being passed.
