Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
My work has sick days, but it's been known that it is kind of "Looked down" upon by Management if you use them. They feel that anything less than a limb being severed off and you need to "tough" it up and work through it. (which I strongly disagree with)
but it leads to people coming in and working sick by being guilted into it. Which leads to others getting sick, and soon the whole work place is sick pretty much.
Thankfully I've had really good health this past year. I have called out due to snow but it was this recent snowstorm where only 4 employees came to work, and they closed by 11 Am.
Yeah, that sort of mindset is counterproductive and an outdated way to run a business. Just breeds negative moral, and doesn't really help the bottom line at all. In fact it's the opposite, like you said
Also, it's not like people ever get credit for never calling in lol. I've work at my current job for 5+ years and I've called in maybe 3 times. Yet no one really cares lol. I mean, I don't care either, but it really shouldn't just be expected.Last edited by dubcity; 02-03-2016, 06:15 PM.Comment

One place i used to be at,got around this by hiring almost all part time people to work full time hours. So there's no benefits, sick days, vacation time or anything. Pay was nice, but no vacation/sick days or benefits basically outweighs the pay for full time hoursLast edited by Majingir; 02-03-2016, 06:17 PM.Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
I always know when someone has done this.
The next person comes in and says the pump pumped several odd cents before they got the first drop. It's like yeah, the person before you drained the hose. The pump charges you as soon as the gas leaves the pump, not when it comes out the nozzle.Comment

Sometimes they demand a note from a doctor to prove you were sick, seems like more of a hassle to go to a doctor when you know you just need a day or two to get better, but then the boss says if you're not sick enough to see a doctor then you're not sick enough to stay homeWolverines Wings Same Old Lions Tigers Pistons Erika ChristensenComment

I have to go to medical to get a sick day and medical is at work so might as well work then lol.
With my current job it will be a little bit different as the NTSB investigates us when accidents occur and you don't want them to know you were sick when something bad happened.MLB: Texas Rangers
Soccer: FC Dallas, Fleetwood Town
NCAA: SMU, UTA
NFL: Dallas Cowboys
NHL: Dallas Stars
NBA: Dallas Mavericks

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
I guess I've got it pretty good.
My boss gets pissed if we come in sick, especially if we may be contagious. She'll demand that you go home in that case. And if we're sick, but feeling well enough to work, we get the option to work from home.
Not all my jobs have been like this though.Comment

I remember back in school, that's how they did things too. If you are sick and can't write an exam or test, you need to provide a note. But what student is able to get a note, the day before returning, paying who knows how much money,to write the test a day or two later. Many people just went to class sick simply to write the test, then went home. If teacher got sick,it's their fault for forcing people to show up half dead.Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
Ya,thats what some places do too. Its there to use it,but you absolutely need to be sick to use it or else they think you're just taking advantage of paid days off. Or to make it worse, once you come back, you got twice as much work to do. Some people just got no sympathy for others and want to work them to death and you could tell it probably angers them to have to abide by certain laws in terms of sick days/paid time off.

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
lol who knows. I think there's probably a requirement of a certain number of full time people, but nothing in terms of percentages. Some of the office people,I looked at their schedule and it was 10am-10pm, 3 days a week. So not exactly 40 hours, but real close to it. Others had 8 hour shifts + overtime(which they didn't get bonus pay ontop of regular salary for overtime hours) for 4-5 days a week, and those days were horrible too. It could be something like Sunday,Monday,Wednesday,Thursday,Friday. Stay late on Friday, come in early on sunday, you barely felt like you had off days.Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
I don't know much about labor laws, maybe the temporary designation changes things. But they have lawyers and cover their asses on pretty much everything, so I'm guessing they're doing this legally.
I guess my point is perhaps the language in a hiring agreement has something to do with it?Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
I know a local government organization that hires temporary employees who work 40+ hours a week and receive no benefits of any kind. They receive overtime for getting over 40 hrs per week of course.
