I don't know why this annoys me so much, but a co-worker of mine pronounces the word "query" as "qwurry". I cringe every single time.

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
However, I much prefer the black bars on each side so I can focus all my attention on the video itself. Never saw the point of playing blurred versions of the video on the side just to complete the picture. I try to imagine letterboxed movies trying the same thing. It'd be a disaster. If I upload a standard definition clip, I go with the bars every time.
Well, maybe not the worst. But close. I may still reserve the worst for List articles that are in slideshow format, where a reader has to click to the next page to get from No. 25 to No. 24 (or even those that had five on a page before moving forward with a re-fresh).
I know why websites do it (so each page can count as a new impression for advertisers, spiking page views) but it's so disingenuous that I quit those lists out of principle the moment I see they're slideshows.
The sad part is, I've been a part of sites who've gone that route and even though 80% of readers drop out by the 10th slide, the total number of views still surpasses what a site would get by going single page (even when accounting for possible increased social shares that come from people being more satisfied with a single-page list than a multi-pager that they quit almost immediately).Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
Automatic video now doesn't bother me in the age of high speed internet. But man 15 years ago back when high speed internet wasn't every where and a lot of people still had dial up internet it did. Automatic videos and songs playing kept me from using Myspace. It would take me a good 3 minutes to open a single Myspace page because so many people had auto music playing with gifs and marquee texts all over their page.
Oh the dial up internet days..........brings back memories. I take my 177 down, 12 up internet for granted now. But back then, man it use to take 40 minutes to download Yahoo Messenger on dial up and that was just a 5MB file.Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
Mannnnnn
I had to replace an old kitchen faucet a few weeks back and the whole damn underside of it was rusted out. For like 90 minutes I battled with that thing while in the most uncomfortable position possible. Finally I just took the sink out and hit it a few times with a sledgehammer (my counter-tops are granite so they're pretty sturdy). I wanted to take it outside and go Office Space on it.Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
Had the same problem with the brakes on my old Mustang. We figured, a couple hours at the most. Well the rears had been on since the car came off the line, so those things were more than a decade old. The fronts, whoever did them before I bought the car had the calipers tight as hell. We wasted several hours alone just trying to loosen things up or at the junkyard/parts store getting replacements since it was easier just to destroy what was there and start over. Took over 12 hours.Comment

Lord, that was many moons ago.
I bet whomever created that is still kicking his/herself that Facebook beat them at their own game.Originally posted by Gibson88Anyone who asked for an ETA is not being Master of their Domain.

I think the dude who created Myspace sold it right before it crashed for a **** ton of money. I could be wrong, but I think I remember seeing that somewhere.Comment

Facebook is worth more than Wal-Mart at like $250 billion (as of mid/2015). $580MM is a huge chunk of change but that's still a wide gap from the $230B Facebook is worth now.Originally posted by Gibson88Anyone who asked for an ETA is not being Master of their Domain.
