Re: You know what really grinds my gears?

Getting screwed out of a Black Friday deal because of some stupid internal flagged security issue with the online order.

I purchased or thought I purchased a Lenovo ThinkPad online during their Black Friday sale. Got the confirmation email and was pretty pumped. Today got an email saying the order was cancelled due to some failed internal security checks with the order. I called them up and asked what the hell is going on and they reconfirmed the order failed to pass some security checks. I said how about an email to rectify it instead of just cancelling outright. They had no problem charging my credit though. Long story short they could not reinstate the order because the item had since sold out, no ****! Terrible ****ing experience!

those people who participate in those dr. pepper halftime contests to throw as many footballs as they can through those targets for scholarship monies. not all of them, mind you. just the ones that throw the footballs like they were basketballs.

        that's the secret though!

I love how some dude with perfect accuracy on his throws can lose to a little girl who does nothing but chuck those ****ers as fast as possible at the opening, there's gotta be a sport science study somewhere showing a glaring disparity between throwing it like a QB or just chest passing to the spot as fast as possible

Yeah, I think people are sort of on to the fact that the way to win is to just chest-pass as many footballs through the opening as you can. Those contests suck (largely as a result of that 'strategy', which as l3ulvl pointed out, has really been shown to be optimal).

They really need to have some rule or set up the contest in such a way that it promotes actually throwing a f*#% football. They can have the short one for smaller/weaker people, but there should be an additional 15-yard downfield target that is worth like 5-10 points, so that if you want to throw it like it's meant to be thrown, you get rewarded.

The warning was for bypassing the language filter, not for foul language which is allowed within reason per the TOS as long as the filter isn't being bypassed.

Probably not best to discuss here though, shoot the mod that issued the warning a PM or myself if you'd like.

Meh, there are a few 'green names' who regularly make expletive-filled posts themselves. Language warning is loosely enforced at best. (Although I think the mods do a fantastic job overall)

Just to clarify...could you explain what you mean by bypassing the language filter?

If I post a 4-letter word and it gets changed to ****, then it's ok (within reason)? But if I do something to make it not look like ****, then it's not ok? Is that what you mean?

I'd ask you this same thing in a PM, but maybe clarifying out in the open would be helpful to some others who maybe don't understand the distinction you are making.

Bypassing the filter refers to using other characters to prevent the filter from replacing the entire word with asterisks. Let's say that "word" is censored so if I typed w-o-r-d it would show up as ****, but if I type w-0-r-d it would show up as w0rd or if I typed w-*-*-* it would show up as w***. So yes, doing something that prevents the word from being completely asterisked out is against the TOS, but letting the filter do its job and having asterisked out words in your post is fine within reason, but if you have a 10 word post with 8 of them asterisked out profanity, then that would probably be deemed a bit excessive.

But, like kehlis said, this isn't the place to be discussing it. Let's keep this thread on topic.

I'll take it one step further and be literal. I hate how notchy my current gearbox is in my '99 Civic shifting from 2nd to 3rd. It makes a harsh crunch sound if I'm a single RPM above 3k, like the clutch is actually grinding.

I know, I know... "Granny shifting, not double-clutching like you should." An easier thing would be to just get a new car. Thankfully, I should be getting one this week.

I'm at 224k miles, and it's having tons of problems. It's not on life support, but I want to stop paying toward it only for things to go wrong again.

Now my car has always had that notchy feel going from 2nd to 3rd gear, even with changes to the transmission and flywheel. It's actually probably natural for the car, but I figure it fit the thread. My friend always asked: "You sure you're pushing the clutch in all the way?" Yesssssss.

I give you credit, I could never hold on to a car that long. For me it’s 3 and out and on to the next one.
