Says a whole bunch of people who download free music and movies. So I guess if Justin Timberlake decides to walk in my house and blow my brains out, it would be justified.

Completely different. People downloading music doesn't put anyone into a situation where the person committing the crime may actually end up doing something to actually harm or kill the person being victimized. Breaking into someone's house and creating the possibility of a confrontation does.

The bottom line for me, and apparently a lot of people here, is that if you are hurt or killed while committing a felony then no one is going to feel like it was much of a crime against you.

2.) Your comment doesn't apply to this situation. Who knows whether the burglars knew whether the people were home or not? Maybe they picked a time where the homeowners weren't there to AVOID confrontation. We don't know the situation. I do know that death is final and for many people to say that all thieves should end up like this is not only pretty callous, it is downright hypocritical with most people.

It even seems like the old man who pulled the trigger was shocked and troubled by the fact he actually killed them.

It's also, as I said, not going onto anyone's physical property and potentally putting their lives in immediate harm's way.

Maybe they picked a time where the homeowners weren't there to AVOID confrontation. We don't know the situation. I do know that death is final and for many people to say that all thieves should end up like this is not only pretty callous, it is downright hypocritical with most people.

You are right it applies less to this specific situation but in general someone breaking into someone's house is putting a person's live at immediate risk. In this case though as I said, I don't think many people will lament the fact that these men committing a felony got killed. Is it sad they had to die? Yes, but as has been stated, their own actions resulted in their deaths so it's not callous IMO.

Cmon man. How can you use downloading music as an example? Talk about apples and oranges.And how do you know what in the mind of someone crazy enough to break into another person's home? Nowadays idioits that are robbing people are killing them if they don't get what they want. We had a very close friend that lost her life to a couple of killers because she only had 88 bucks in cash on her. They shot her right through the heart. My cousin Woody was shot through the eye when he was a victim of a home invasion. He served as a Marine in Iraq and made it through 2 tours to be killed in his own living room.

Long story short. I am shooting anyone that could harm to my family. And I am not going to take the chance to ask them if they are friendly robbers. I served in countries that believe in harsh punishiment for criminals. The crime rates there are low. This country should do the same. Criminals here are getting more and more brazen and violent with their actions. Honest hardworking people need to protect themselves.

I agree as well, but I'm not sure it's relevant in this case. This guy wasn't protecting himself. He went out of his way to confront these guys. While I don't sympathize with the criminals, this guy crossed the line and should be punished for it.

Camulos and Rocky are the only sane few in this thread that I've noticed.

What those fools did in burglarizing the house was wrong. I don't think anyone can argue that (aside from Timmay, geez). That still doesn't give the "killer" in this case, a 3rd party, the right to just chase them down and shoot them.

Put the scenario another way:

Someone is being robbed for their money in public. Some third party comes by and points a gun at them and tells them to stop. The guy backs off and makes a break for it... Does that 3rd party have the right to chase him down and shoot him?

It goes both ways though. I had a friend that went to Florida and lost her license while she was there. Her husband broke into her parents house (parents were in Alaska at the time) to get her passport and ship it overnight it so she could make the return flight. What if this guy had been their neighbor and came out shooting?

Not a good comparison and I'll tell you why. Mr. Horn (guy who killed the two criminals) waited patiently and assessed the situation.

If Mr. Horn was out there when you talk about the situation above, the husband breaking in would've stayed put with a shotgun pointed at him and would've explained the situation. Why? Because he is not guilty of anything.

Don't think it would of mattered with this guy. Not sure the facts that are out now, but they didn't know if the guys ran, if they were facing him, coming towards him or what.

At least according to Glen Beck and the lawyer he had on his show.

They probably shouldn't of lost their lives, but they also shouldn't of broke into the house. I am looking at like this, what if that family would of been home, or what if a mother would of been home with a child and she got rapped, killed etc...now I know we can play "what if's" with a lot of things, but it all goes back to this. If they would not have broke in, they would still be alive.

I don't see how you can predict how this guy would have reacted in my comparison. The guys Horn shot were shot in the chest and side. They weren't shot in the back running away. Maybe they did stop and Horn simply didn't care.

I don't see how anyone can think somebody taking the law into their own hands like this is a good thing. I'm all for protecting yourself and your property but Horn went out of his way to confront these guys.

If they would not have broke in, they would still be alive.

That sums up my opinion completely.

Situation was only avoidable by 1 party, and that was the ones who broke in because the gentleman that owned the home didnt ask for this to happen.

I dont think the guy should get in trouble.

Shooting them in the back while running away would make it even worse, although I don't think that's what happened in this case.

Both men were shot once at a range of less than 15 feet with blasts from a 12-guage shotgun.
The neighbor fired twice. One shot struck one of the suspected burglars in the chest, and the other was struck on the side.
