I can only speak for Michigan, but you can be cited for not having proof of registration in the car. It's rare that I would write someone for not having it, since it's easy to tell if it's current and correct to the car.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure in most states you can get cited for not having registration, I've never been asked, seen, or heard of someone being asked for it. Just interesting to me, as here that's something you wouldn't see.

Luckily it doesn't happen that often, but when it does, I can't apologize enough to them. Every time it has happened though, they accept the citation alot better than Joe Citizen does.

I was more thinking along the line if he had total disregard for the safety of others, military, or not. Multiple violations, going waaaay over the speed limit, that kind of thing.

In Georgia they always asks for license and insurance. I have never had them check the registration, but I have it in the glove box. Guess it's different depending on the state you live in.

Agreed, why I said never was the wrong word when I used it earlier.

Well, since we're on topic of officers above law and feeling they're justified:

Ga. police officers shoot each other

At least WTF is on the right track. Infiltrate and clean it up WTF!!

Haven't read this thread, so I don't know if this has been addressed or not... but in KY unless we are going to a call where there is imminent threat that someone is going to die, we don't run the whole way with our lights and siren's on. However, that doesn't change the fact that we need to get to calls quickly, so if there is an intersection between here and an accident, we won't run our blue's until there is a need to do so.

I know some people probably do it just to get through a busy intersection, but sometimes, it's possible that they're going to a call...

What a dumb ###, sounds like that was domestic violence call turn bad. What was that guy thinking, like shooting it out was going to make things go away.

instead of taking a big suspension hit now he's as good as fired

Re: How dare police officers and their family members follow the law

It appears a uniformed officer confronted this off duty officer in the middle of some kind of domestic dispute. The article isn't clear, but me thinks the uniformed officer probably had to shoot the off duty officer, who was armed and wearing his vest, as a result of doing his duty. Officers who are involved in shootings always get "suspended" pending a shooting board review.

Found this in the local paper today.

Law enforcement officer arrested for DUI

                        Friday, February 1, 2008 10:50 PM PST

A local law enforcement official was arrested and charged with driving under the influence after the car he was driving ran into a palm tree in El Centro early Friday morning, El Centro police officials said.

Neil Duckworth, who works for an unnamed local law enforcement agency, had a blood-alcohol level of .20, El Centro police said.

The vehicle driven by Duckworth, which carried two passengers, ran into a palm tree in a cul-de-sac in the 1800 block of Olive Street at 2 a.m. Friday.

That's because he ran into a palm tree.

Most of the examples being referred to here prevent destruction such as that... and most are pointing that a "man of law" get a free pass before hand while a "civilian" wouldn't.

Using that situation... I'm sure there are times where the guy might have been helped by another officer knowing he was drunk.

Of course there are those would do the right thing. But that wouldn't make this thread interesting now would it?

However, that doesn't change the fact that we need to get to calls quickly, so if there is an intersection between here and an accident, we won't run our blue's until there is a need to do so.

I know some people probably do it just to get through a busy intersection, but sometimes, it's possible that they're going to a call...

Officers who are involved in shootings always get "suspended" pending a shooting board review.

Found this in the local paper today.

Friday.

yeah, the woman was yelling for help. Here window was smashed and she had blood on her hands. The office in plain clothes just starting firing at the officer when he pulled up (who was in uniform and in a police car).

It's in the OM-C-1 section of our policy that whenever we pull over douchebags, we are to end their career with a punt to the head...
