    So sad.
It's more regional than anything. We have good cops around here, I trust them. They got into the profession for all the right reasons. In some other places I wouldn't trust any of those cops.

I really don't mind other cops letting other cops off. But just because you are a friend of a cop or a family member you are crazy if you think you should be let off. I don't knock them for trying, I would to, but I wouldn't go ranting about it on the internet.

Re: How dare police officers and their family members follow the law

I am a police officer with the Port Authority NY/NJ Police Department.
I was coming home to NJ with my family from Myrtle Beach Driving up Interstate 95 when I was pulled over for Speeding by a Va State Trooper (Tpr Shehan # 5667)

I identified Myself as a Law Enforcement Officer with The Port Authority and The trooper asked me again for my license, reg and insurance card. I handed over my license etc and the trooper stated he pulled me over for doing 82MPH in a 65MPH.

When the trooper came back to my car he stated he wrote me a summons for RECKLESS Driving because I was driving over 80MPH.
When I asked about the trooper extending Professional Courtesy the trooper stated he gives Courtesy "BUT NOT AT THAT SPEED"

The thing that burns me up is that not only did he not extend courtesy to me after My dept extended courtesy to his agency at the World Trade Center after 9/11, He wrote me a summons for RECKLESS driving which is $ 176.00 instead of speeding (17 MPH over speed limit would have cost me $85.00).
This one I can understand. Don't a be a douchebag and give him reckless driving. It's a bastard move.

Lessons Learned: If you are going over 80mh in Virginia it is a criminal offense not a traffic violation, therefore, hire an attorney. Virginia is a different breed of cops with a different agenda. They just don't get it and they probably never will.
Yikes Virginia cops are famous for being ballbusters, funny that a cop from anywhere else thinks he has a chance there..nobody does.

Re: How dare police officers and their family members follow the law

This is the very reason why I'm not a fan of officers at times. When they're on duty, they break the law a lot because they feel the uniform gives them that right and then they throw their exposure to danger in there to make it justified. Wish cops would write cops more often. I know in Chicagoland area, we have a good amount of great cops, but the horrible cops just are so rampant. No sympathy for them having to abide just like regular citizens........

It depends on what type of cops you have in your town. I know we got some shady ones in my town. I know we had a Deputy Sheriff get out of a drug trafficking charge by ratting out the Sheriff whom he was in business with. I only mention this because the same deputy sheriff is now the Chief of Police.

So that deputy sheriff is equivalent to "half of all police"? There are shady people in every walk of life. But just like everything else in the world people love to exaggerate and take things to the extreme.

I'll straight out tell you I will not write another cop or firefighter...never.

You expect me to turn around and stop a guy who has saved my life, and that I trust with my life, and write him or his wife a ticket? It's the same reason I would never write a military solider. Go join the forces, go to Iraq, and get in a few firefights. Then come back home, join the police, and go work patrol 4 days a week in the dark of the night with only your partner to count on. The you'll learn real quick why King Henry V said, "we few, we happy few, we band of brothers." The bond created is a strong one...I would lay down my life for my fellow officers. And you expect me to write one of them? I'm sorry I just can't.

You expect me to turn around and stop a guy who has saved my life, and that I trust with my life, and write him or his wife a ticket? I don't even care if it's a cop from Backwater, Florida...cops are a brotherhood. It's the same reason I would never write a military solider. That's wonderful if you believe that someone who took an easy entrance exam is your brother and is above the law, that doesn't mean that we have to like that. This attitude certainly doesn't help people's perceptions of the police. I wouldn't even care too much if it's your partner, I would understand cutting someone a break who is actually with you all the time and has saved your life. Saying that every member of the police should get cut slack is something completely different and I hope that officers who do that get found and punished. Although I guess that if you can get paid leave after shooting an innocent person or beating someone for no reason then reckless driving or going 25+ mph over the speed limit is pretty tame.

Your attitude towards the police has always been negative. I'm not sure if you were the "innocent" person that got shot or the "innocent" person that got beat...but you always bring a chuckle to me with your anti police comments.

You are just one person, in a forum, that I will never meet in my life. I know that the silent majority of American's respect and are pro-police. Those that shout the loudest often have the most to hide.

With that there is no need to continue on for me in this thread. I have to get ready for work anyways. There are "innocent" people out there who need arresting.

Edit...I just realized you are 19. I hated the police too when I was 19 so at least we can bond on that one. Get back to me in about 10 years. You will be absolutely shocked at how your views on the world change when you've actually lived a little. Peace...

You openly admit to planning to allow police officers and firefighters to break the law with no punishment, which is sad for someone who is supposed to uphold the law. What really makes me "chuckle" is that police officers actually believe that they are above the law and whine about not getting a break when they violate a law that they would enforce if it was another person.

And I'm talking about police protecting other police and I was explaining why I don't trust the police in general. These things go hand in hand, the police allow one another to break the law and then when they beat or kill someone they make up stories to protect whoever's in trouble.
