So what would I do if a girl doesn't have a "father" - most females I come across don't. So I would just ask the mother correct?
    Concrete evidence/videos please

Thats what my boy who just got engaged did. I think its just the respectful thing to do....

Mothers dont usually give away thier daughters at weeding though right? theyd pick like a uncle or something?

I was like perfect, she will not expect anything because she asked me. So I told her I would make dessert (A cake). So we are eating, the sun is setting etc... I was just sitting there telling her how I felt about her and how happy she made me and what have you and I was like do you want dessert now? She was like sure... so when she went to take the top off the cake pan, I had wrote with icing "Will you marry me?" and at the bottom I had the ring sitting in the cake. It was a perfect moment and I thought it was different.
Congrats man. That sounds like something you see in a movie. I proposed to my wife on vacation at Myrtle Beach. I had planned to do it at night, you know.....under the moon and stars and all that while walking on the beach, but it didn't quite happen that way. On our trip there, she got really sick.....lost her voice, got a really high fever, bad cough.....all that mess. We spent the 1st day of our trip at the Emergency Prompt Care place waiting to see a doctor and get some medicine. She spent days 2,3, & 4 in the hotel room or lying in the sun under a towel by the pool........freezing. Finally by day 5, the day we were going home, she felt good enough to get out a little bit. As we were collecting seashells on the beach, I pulled the ring out of my pocket, dropped to 1 knee and proposed. Not quite as romantic as I had envisioned, but still on the beach nonetheless.

That's a lot of gifts to have to buy.

My fiancee's parents were divorced, and her mom lives down her in the same town as we do, so i asked her dad, like i had planned on, but i asked her mom also, just bc they were so close (distance and relationship) and wanted her to feel part of it.

I just got engaged to my fiancee last weekend. So much stuff to do!! She's second generation Chinese so we have to respect all their traditions (her parents are finding a 'lucky' date based on the lunar calendar), and I'm Catholic so I'd like to find a Catholic church. Unfortunately most of the Catholic churches in the metro-Detroit area you have to be a registered member for at least 6 months before you even ask to get married there (I live in Lansing, so this isn't really a great option). Then we gotta figure out how we're going to pay for all of it aughhh
