$3.49 at the moment but there is talk of it being $3.59 by Friday. It's almost cheaper for me to stay at home during the day rather than drive 30 miles (roundtrip) to work Monday-Friday. If I could only convince my wife of that. LOL

Re: So.....Whats your gas at??
Having 17 different types of gasoline due to BS environmental restrictions is what will be driving the price up this summer. Ridiculous....
Hopefully, McCain's call to repeal the federal gas tax this summer will help some, as you spend about 23 cents (It may be 18, cannot remember) on every gallon of gas on federal gas tax. I remember that in West Virginia there was this gas station and it had how much the gas tax was and it was 44 cents a gallon, some of it state tax and some federal tax. And the government wants to blame the oil companies for this when they are taxing us ridiculous amounts?
Also, gas is going up since the dollar is getting weaker and because of OPEC.Comment

Re: So.....Whats your gas at??
Exactly. My dad has worked as an engineer at BP for over 25 years, he now has a fairly senior position at the Toledo Refinery. I asked him why gas prices kept going up years ago. He responded with basically what you just read above, and gave me the reports he gets every day in regards to production and prices and futures. You might think I have a bias, but everything I saw correlates to that. And BP by the way, at least the Toledo Refinery, runs on Canadian oil.The whole thing is because of OPEC. Its has nothing to do with the gas stations and only little to do with the companies that turn the oil into gas. OPEC keeps the supply low so the market isn't flooded. China needs more oil, so they have been driving the price up because the supply hasn't changed. Also OPEC has been trying to build the USA price up to get it to the price with Europe which is $5+. There is plenty of oil, the USA in fact has enough to drive the price back down to sub $1 prices. No one will let us drill though.Comment

Re: So.....Whats your gas at??
I filled up on Friday, $3.43 for 87, $72.10 to fill up my tank. It's the 1st time I ever paid over $65.00 to fill up my truck, it made me cry.I've heard this "patience is a virtue" junk all my life. I'm happy to say I have no virtue, no scruples, and no desire to wait too long for anything. In my humble opinion instant gratification takes too long!

Re: So.....Whats your gas at??
as far as gas is concerned...the more refineries there are, the more supply there is
but a refinery hasnt been built in this country since the late 70s and we arent going to build any more. They are not environmentally friendly.
the "whole thing" is not because of OPEC....OPEC is acting like they always do. There are a lot of other factors that lead to OPEC being such a major factor.OPEC keeps the supply low so the market isn't flooded. China needs more oil, so they have been driving the price up because the supply hasn't changed. Also OPEC has been trying to build the USA price up to get it to the price with Europe which is $5+. There is plenty of oil, the USA in fact has enough to drive the price back down to sub $1 prices. No one will let us drill though.
we need to reduce our dependence on foreign oil (at least reduce it moreso than it is currently). We need to produce more here (but while being as environmentally responsible as possible). If we produced more here, OPEC wouldnt be as much of a factor (although they will always be a factor, we will always use foreign oil, because we dont want to tap our US supply faster than we need to).
We do not have a shortage right now. However, oil is not a renewable resource, and world demand will do nothing but increase...so a shortage in inevitable. The inevitability of a shortage, combined with increased world demand, will obviously play a major role in keeping the price up (as well as a million other factors, including unstable world events, the value of the US dollar, oil futures trading on the stock market, etc.etc,etc).Last edited by ZB9; 04-16-2008, 01:50 PM.Comment

Re: So.....Whats your gas at??
Ha i hear ya man. I dont blame you
but imo it does put it in better perspective to compare our situation to other areas of the world. We have had it pretty good here in our history when it comes to gas prices, and we still do have it better than most other places.
it's never going to be back down to where it was in the 90s. People should stop comparing it to the past, and instead compare it in the context of the current situation.Last edited by ZB9; 04-16-2008, 12:44 PM.Comment
