LMAO. Please. We aren't that naive.
Since no one has answered this yet, can you tell me why the majority of refineries go offline for maintenance during peak demand months? Which is a convinient excuse to control supply domestically.Comment

there are a lot of factors at play though. It is not that easy to assign blame in this situation.Comment

Re: Can anyone explain to me why gas is still rising?
people refuse to look into opening new ones that are more environmentally feasible than in the past. I dont know if new refineries are a good idea, but larger refinery capacity in this country would certainly lower gas prices.Last edited by ZB9; 05-18-2008, 11:18 PM.Comment

i know a number of them were closed years ago for failure to pass emission standards when new environmental laws were passed. I dont think many have been closed in the past few years though.

It's a convinient ploy to manipulate supply.Comment

after refineries have readjusted to the raised emission standards, i doubt many more have closed than the usual in years past. There were closings in the past even when they didnt have so many environmental standards.Comment

So it's your contention, they do not go do for maintenence, and specifcally not during peak months. Say June through September?Comment
