For the person talking about Europe's infrastructure and public transportation.

I do remember seeing this on Discovery. I don't know about the rest of Europe. The nightmare that is London's subway system...

The commute clocks in at two hours each way, four hours a day, 20 a week, 80 a month – hardly a record by London standards. The travel time is "particularly perverse," he says, considering Darley's home sits on a hilltop "less than 40 miles" from the office.

Hopefully the rising gas costs will lead to a renewed push for our country to move away from oil.

I've been hearing that people in the US may not be driving around so much this Memorial Day Weekend so I ask will any of you guys change your plans by not driving long distances that weekend?

The federal gas tax is funding the war. If they wanna keep doing that then they should get rid of income tax. Obviously the federal gas tax effects rich and poor - this way middle class can stop flipping the bill for everything.

Just filled up the tank and mind you it wasn't empty, in the red but in no way empty (chevy impala 6cyl) and it cost 53 dollars!!! Holy cow. I couldn't believe it. Good thing it's on a company gas card
I haven't personally purchased gas in like 5 years or so.

Take it for what it's worth. We are also going to be faced in our area with at least a 50% increase in natural gas. I don't know how some families make it. I am very concerned about our immediate future.

Is it even true that the federal income tax goes solely to the Federal Reserve? The only source I can find that claims this are dubious conspiracy sites. I don't know if this is true, but I'd like some reliable source to back this up. The Federal Reserve obviously has an extremely important role in our economy, but I'd be surprised if this is where ALL income tax money goes.

"The Report said that one-third of all income taxes is consumed by waste and inefficiency in the Federal Government, and another one-third escapes collection due to the underground economy. With two-thirds of everyone's personal income taxes wasted or not collected, 100 percent of what is collected is absorbed solely by interest on the Federal debt and by Federal Government contributions to transfer payments. In other words, all individual income tax revenues are gone before one nickel is spent on the services which taxpayers expect from their Government."

Us old bastards can get pretty set in our ways when it comes to learning new stuff. Sometimes i wish it was easier to replace some of this this **** information i have in my "harddrive" lol.

anyway, that is a bad attitude to have BK. Its probably good that you arent a school teacher

I guess he makes good points because he agrees with you? As I said, when he actually has a dose of real life, then he can tell me about what taxes are fair and what aren't.

And please the notion we should run the country like it was 200 years ago? While great in an idealist train of thought, isn't too feasible.

Please, continue making excuses for the oil industry and telling us how they are the real victims in all this, and are in no way shape or form to blame for the ridiculous price of gas.

And yes I shouldn't be a teacher. I can't take our current youth and their sense of entitlement.

never said they were victims, they arent...but they certainly arent the enemy either, no matter how much certain folks in the govt want to perpetuate that BS.

They are to blame, more than anyone. Until they stop colluding and price gouging, and using their money and lobby to kill altnerate fuel technology, they are the enemy as far as I am concerned.

I'm totally in agreement with BK in this thread, it's amazing people are painting oil companies that are making record profits as "victims". They're multi billion dollar companies, I can't really see them being victimized in this case.
