The increased price of groceries goes back to the gas prices being high. Since it costs more to transports the items that cost is passed on to the consumer. Part of the reason we are in a recession is because of the gas prices. If gas prices drop so does the cost of groceries.

Another thing to think about also, is with high gas prices people are not going to take as many weekend road trips or vacations. People not going on vacation, staying at hotels, buying souveniers and eating at restaurants contributes to the strain on the economy. They have to pay more for gas so people are more inclined not to go anywhere and commute only as necessary. They also do not have the same disposable income they had because that money is being spent on gas and groceries.

Everything keeps rising in price but salaries are not going up and good paying jobs are getting harder and harder to find.

I see no one answered my question earlier...Oh well.

BTW if you think gas prices are killing us just wait til those of us in the colder climates have to use natural gas!

You must have skipped over my post when I stated the exact same thing (post #112). I live in Colorado; natural gas prices are expected to rise 50%.

I am an optimistic person, but man are we in trouble.

I know that, hence why I said, "gas I buy". The gas I buy, isn't the same gas that is used in a truck for shipping. I can get around buying gas at the pump by driving less, I can't get around buying groceries.

I don't know about where you live, but here, the price of diesel, and in turn the price of groceries, went up much faster than the price of the regular unleaded I put in my car.

I'm going to hunt you down too BK. I will be waiting at the golf course when finish up your 18 holes of fun and then I will beat you with a sand wedge and your own golf shoes and force you to put premium gas in all 4 of my vehicles and my 2 lawnmowers at California prices .

just an fyi, Congress has decided to consider raising (yes, raising) the gas tax, which will drive price UP at the pump. They are considering a hike of 10 cents/gallon.

The government makes more money than the oil companies, yet I guess they want more...they did not like at all the proposal of lowering the federal gas tax or the proposal of federal gas tax holidays.

you California folks wonder why you pay much more for gas than anyone?...It's mainly because you pay more gas taxes than anyone. Again, the government is making more money than anyone, and they dont do anything but talk about the "evil oil companies". The oil companies actually work to increase supply. Congress doesnt do crap but collect their taxes. They talk and talk about lowering gas prices, but that is all it is, talk. Especially since '06, they have been acting like they are clueless about energy.

Just since '06? The problems we're having now go back way before '06.

I'll say it again. **** the price gouging, supply fixing, price fixing oil companies. The sooner we get off of the need for oil and the sooner we put them out of business the better off we'll all be.

Gas tax is a joke and another reason why congress has lost touch, but please don't insult my intelligence and try to act like the oil business is an innocent victim in this absurdity.
