If you are a regular, I might tend to agree with that, but if you are not a regular customer and trying the restaurant out the first time, not sure if I agree with that.

The staff doesn't know you what you will tip before the bill is paid.

There is a difference between poor service and spitting (or doing anything else harmful) in food of somebody. Anyways it was a user with multiple accounts who is no longer with us. Moving on...

I don't care how a customer treats you, you don't mess with people's food.

        It's a cowardly, ***** thing to do.

Much safer ways to **** with the persons night than messing with their food and risking their health.

Absolutely. It's unsafe, not worth it, and no need to stoop to their level. The idea of someone eating something I messed with was never worth the satisfaction. I'd throw their food at them before I did that.

Sure your food will be more, but you will be guaranteed to receive an appropriate level of service. If you receive terrible service, you won't be going back to that place. If it is just one person, they would be fired quickly so the restaurant doesn't lose their customers. If it is the restaurant, then it will have to lower their prices or have no customers.

Look at Chick-fil-a, you get great service because they pay more and don't put up with the normal fast food worker attitude. The food cost more, but people pack them because of that. They don't accept tips, but still give great service.

Restaurants should do the same thing and then fire or don't hire crappy servers.
I dont have a problem with tipping. But I agree with you here. Chic Fil A is an excellent example. Another one I would guess is In N Out burger. I dont know for sure, but they must be making more than your standard fast food joint. Its all about holding your employees to a hire standard.

I was actually wondering how you guys' experiences have been oversees. Tipping isnt something that's done very much in other countries right?

How has the service been for those that have been in other countries?

I tipped in Paris but all the servers were great. They also never rushed you regardless how long you were there. They were also surprised at how much we tipped. I guess the French don't tip well.

Their servers have higher wages. Tipping isn't all that common in Europe. It's mostly anallergic American thing.

Yea, from what I know, service is already included for many places and anything extra is not expected (but I'm sure appreciated).

And I wouldn't disagree with anyone who would prefer it to be that way here as well, but unfortunately it isn't.

Re: GUYS, What is your Perspective on Tipping

I ordered a pizza and soda one time from a place literally a minute from my house. (Yes I'm lazy)...pizza took forever. Some places take 45 mins to an hour and I'm patient. But it had to be 90+ mins. At least.

Finally driver gets here. Hands me the pizza. Probably still gave him $5 on a 15-20 dollar order. So i ask him, where's the soda? He says I'm so sorry, I forgot it. Ill be right back. Now this place is 60 seconds away remember lol. I'm thinking Ill give him 10 minutes. Maybe he is picking up more orders plus he was a pretty young kid.

I wait...must've been a half an hour I'm still standing at my front door like wtf...I call them up and explain. Lady gives me an attitude! Finally kid gets back to my house. No apology, no explanation. I wanted to flip him upside down and shake the money out of his pockets.

Other than that, I usually get good service besides the occasional person who can't work a GPS lol

I have nothing against tipping. I approve of it.

But I have a question. For those that either support or just believe that tippers get better service, don't you think it's possible that the bad tipper hasn't become a good one because you keep treating him like an average customer?

I've worked in service before and trust me, I know what it's like when you know that customer is coming in and no one wants to take the job. But my attitude has always been, you treat everyone above and beyond.

Maybe it doesn't matter to the customer, but I know the manager and company recognized it. And why would I allow myself to turn off the switch? I'm there to serve, not pick and choose who to serve.

I agree. A tip should be a reward that is earned, not a birthright that is required for adequate service. If I get terrible service, I shouldn't have to tip the guy anyway to have a chance at decent service next time. It should be a reward for good service, not the cause of it.

And to the people that intentionally do a bad job of serving customers who don't tip well, congratulations. You're bad at your job. I've never had a job where I'd intentionally do bad by a customer, no matter how big of a tool they are. That's unprofessional.

                                That's my thinking.

I hate how it is expected....earn that tip.

I tip well for good service. I still tip for ****ty service, even though I shouldn't.

My whole issue with tipping is the fact that it has become an expectation which has driven down the service.
