GUYS, What is your Perspective on Tipping

I'm saying I don't tip them. I also go to outlet shoe stores so they don't get commission there. It was just an example. Do you tip a store clerk who grabs you a pack of cigarettes from behind the counter? Same principle applies

This is what I mean when I say the tipping thing has gotten a bit out of control. People now expect tips for EVERYTHING.

Always wanted to share this story but there was never an appropriate thread to post it in but this is a perfect example of what you just said.

The parking garage I park in for work is one that you get a ticket in the morning when you enter then pay at a pay station before leaving then you insert the paid ticket into the machine when exiting and the gate goes up.

(I know, not rocket science, but wanted to set the stage)

There are a couple of mini offices where the one or two workers they have on at all times when the garage is open to sit in.

The guy who mans the office by the exit when I leave is always in the office sitting down (looking half asleep but it HAS to be a boring job).

About when December rolled around he started coming out and standing at the machine and would take our tickets from us (inches away from where I would insert it) and then put it in himself.

Found it strange but whatever, went on for a couple more days or so and then one day when I pulled up, I said how are you to him before giving him my ticket, and he said "Great, I finally got my first tip of the Christmas season."

I think I said something nice, and then drove off.

It was just weird that it almost seemed like he was expecting a tip for taking a ticket out of our hand, putting it in the machine inches from my hand that I just have to reach out for.

        Kind of like bathroom attendants......

Yeah, it's like the taxi driver. If I pay for the overpriced ride, what does the tip cover?

Every time I see a bathroom attendant I ask myself what would it take for me to swallow my pride and do that job. I've come to the conclusion that it would literally have to come down to being a bathroom attendant or being homeless.

Well to be fair to that, they pay for their own gas and I'm not sure whet they get as a percentage of their fares.

I'd have to know more specifics about how the arrangement works but knowing that they pay their own gas I'm a little more willing to justify that one than others.

Yeah, not tipping a cab driver is a douche move.

I rarely have to take a cab, and the only time I don't tip is if the guy is intentionally taking the long way. If he's trying to take advantage, no tip.

That's completely understandable and akin to bad service at a sit down restaurant.

Not tipping a cabbie "just cuz" though... big time douche move. Next time take the bus.

I don't tip black car service.

They charge more and don't even take cards.

There's a small franchise by my house, cluck-u chicken. I love the food but damn I've never seen a place mess up my order so many times. I don't want to punish the drivers as they usually don't make the food but I guess they should also read the ticket and make sure the order is right. They also always have trouble finding my house and usually call me for directions even though my house is on a main road with the house number right on the front...I feel inclined to give them no tip next time.

I always tip the cab driver. Because 9 times out of 10 I'm taking a cab with my drunk ******* friends.

Without knowing the situation, It's sad that I've rode in the back of a police car, but I've never been in a cab.

Here's my thing: When I'm at a restaurant, I pay for the food and tip for the service. When I book a shuttle to the airport the guy picks up my bags and such so I tip him for that service. What exactly is my tip for the cab covering?

Do you guys tip barbers? I have seen a lot of people not tip when I go to get my haircut. It always surprises me. IMO barbers are more tip worthy than waiters/waitresses. Those people are messing with my hair. I can deal with bad service at a restaurant. I can't deal with a bad haircut.
