    From the grave!

20% normally, unless the the server is bad.

If the server is good, then perhaps 25-30%

Honestly, I normally give 5 dollars whether the meal was 10 bucks or it was 30. I don't know, its just a habit. Luckily, my girl normally chips in also so the waiter/waitress is normally looking at 8-10 dollars regardless of the cost.

I don't exact change it either, I just used 33% as a guideline. I also have a habit of including the tip along with the money for the bill and putting it together in the billfold and telling them, "All set." in lieu of leaving cash on the table. Just another thing I picked up from the "good old days." I suppose.

I realize that, of course. I was just making a generalization. And I would never order a cheeseburger either. Vegetarians tend to not do things like that. But again, you were just making a generalization as well.

I'm not saying it's right, but when you get slapped with a large bill for a cheap piece of nothing, it gets tough for people to remember that the waiter also needs to make cash.

People go to eat to eat food. They don't go out to eat to be served by a waiter. I will gladly serve myself if I had the choice.

Thats what Buffets are for or order pick-up. I guess thats my take on tipping. If you don't want to tip, don't take up a table. Its the waiters job to serve the table. I'm sure if a stingy bastard came in, the waiter would rather his customer went to McDonalds. If you don't have the cash to tip or don't want to tip, there are plenty of other options than a sit down restaurant.

That pretty much sums it up. If you can't afford to go out to eat, then don't go out to eat. Period.

Re: GUYS, What is your Perspective on Tipping

I consider myself a good tipper, mainly because I have worked in the food service industry and I understand what wait-staff goes through on a day-to-day. Plus, in Va., they don't get paid minimum wage. Also, I feel the need to make-up for the dillweeds and elderly people that don't tip.

I usually go 20-25%, unless the service was exceptionally good or bad. My wife is a vegetarian, and we do a lot of special ordering, so there is usually no middle ground in terms of our service.

Out of experience, I once saw a load of elderly peeps on a bus trip leave an entire section a $5 tip. And none of them paid with a CC or Debit.
Overall satisfaction also makes the decline!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd be breaking some hips if I were that server, man... that's ridiculous.

Yeah, I don't even know why someone would bother working at one of those places that the elderly people visit. There use to be this restaurant we'd go to and it served sandwiches and chicken dinners, fish dinners, but had awesome soups and deserts. I can't tell you how many times I'd see some old people leaving 50 cents or even a quarter. I don't even see how the wait staff was pulling in $7/hour eith tips. Brutal.

I typically triple the tax if the service is great and double it for everything else. We (My wife and I) do have a few places where we get the same great servers and always drop a 20 regardless of the total.
