I agree with alot of the sentiments in this thread. Some see it as a black and white issue, when in most cases there is alot of gray.

To have the thought run through your mind is completely natural in every point in a relationship. To those who say they never thought about cheating, I really envy you guys. I've never actually acted on it, but there have been times where I thought the grass was greener on the other side.

Basically, I had trouble with my relationship and the standards that my s/o put on me. I just really wanted freedom and the ability to bone everything I could in my prime. At the same time, I deeply cared for my girlfriend at the time and just couldn't picture myself with anyone else. It's a selfish thought I know. Luckily, she caught on to the resentment after a while and we worked through it. At the same time, I had some great friends who sat me down and told me that I had a truly great girl and the grass isn't greener on the other side. The decision not to cheat was the best decision I've ever made

I do know people that have cheated and while I don't condone it, I don't think people are trash or bad people. They're human and make mistakes. I had a buddy who has two kids with his wife and still really cared for her. I'm sure he was in love with her...to throw away 10+ years of relationship/marriage isn't a easy thing (it was his HS sweetheart and they were married right after he graduated West Point with me). But like any couple I guess they were going through rough spots in there marriage. Here comes this smokin' hot receptionist at the gym we worked at...literally one of the hottest 3 or 4 women I've seen in my life. They were flirty but I thought nothing of it until one day he reveals to me he has had sex with this girl for months. I was shocked to say the least. This guy literally broe down crying to me and his brother, and one of our other friends. This is one of the toughest men I knew...a guy who has won Bronze Star for valor in Iraq and he is there breaking down right in front of me. I ask him how could you possibly let it go on for this long and he pretty much says like any hard thing, the more you do it, the easier it gets. That has always stuck with me. Amazingly, he admitted it to his wife and they are still together. She is a stronger person than me because I couldn't ever see myself being that forgiving.

Anyways, I think we are all human and all have selfish tendencies about a number of things. You just have to have conviction and the communication with your s/o before it gets to that point.
