My definition? It's a combination of things, and health is not one of them (at least not a big one). It's mostly a mix of the price, the amount, and the taste. Double cheeseburgers are two [albeit small] patties and two slices of cheese, and for its very decent taste and $0.99 cent cost, it was matched up with Little Caesar's pizza as the best valued fast food in the country IMO. Subway's $5 foot long sandwiches were a good jump too, especially when I'm a Subway Club guy (only now it's 8 great subs, meaning the Club is off the list, and the 20% + increase makes me buy it much less often than I used to).

Anyway, don't look at it as 20 cents, look at it as 20%. That's a big increase any way that you look at it, and over time, and cents add up. Why settle for something that, to me now, is of much lesser value when I can go somewhere else? Like I said, Jack In the Box has a cheeseburger deluxe here at SDSU for $1.25. I prefer the taste, and it fills me up about the same. That to me now has better value.

I'm not really trying to argue with anybody here, I just don't think anyone sees the true point I'm trying to make.

That's not to say that they aren't the wealthiest corporation on this planet, but they will lose a lot of people because they got rid of the one thing they had going for them... the dollar double cheeseburgers.
      RE: Nothing going for them...

-As you said, they're still one of the richest, most recognizable companies on the planet. Not just America...the world. That's a pretty big "something going for them," in my opinion.

-I highly doubt they're really going to lose any of their customers over this. Why? Because the people who really like the double cheeseburger will still order it for 20 cents more and the people who don't want to spend the extra 20 cents will go with the "McDouble" because I highly doubt any of them will care about losing a piece of cheese.

-It's fast food. They never had the "nutritional" thing going for them, and anyone that believes fast food is healthy for them deserves to be shot. People who ate fast food before the 20 cent raise in price of one item are still going to eat it...unhealthy or not.

      RE: The Marketing Team

-The commercial was noticeable enough for someone here to start an entire thread about it, and that thread has gotten a good deal of responses. How is that not good marketing?

-You say their marketing has never really been that good. I challenge you to come up with a better idea than any of the ones they have had in the past...which, by the way, have all worked very well.

Well most people don't squeeze every penny they can. If you've looked at all the credit situations in this country, that would provide ample evidence. Most people don't flinch for purchases under $5

IMO people are loyal to the dollar value, but we'll see what ends up happening. I suppose that, for them to lose in this, they would have to lose more than 20% of double cheeseburger sales (plus they now have the McDouble). It just begs me to ask the question as to why they didn't do this earlier then if it was such a good idea.

It's like... okay, so I really shelled out on Blu-ray movies this Black Friday, but I held off on the ones that weren't on sale. That is to say, there are BD movies at Walmart.com that I could always price match that are $19.86. There are maybe 15 or 20 of them like that. But I'm holding off. Why? Because I'm holding off till a sale or two can get these movies even at $16.99 or so, if not $14.99. What difference is that? A couple of bucks per movie? Yes, that's the difference, and I'm willing to wait half of a year to save $40, because I could have to more Blu-ray movies that I wouldn't normally have. It's the percent difference that's making the true dent, not the dollar difference.

I'm sure many other people would agree with the things that I'm saying. If not, then I don't know why a Walmart employer was killed on BF.

While this is true, just keep in mind that it's not the one $5 purchase, but when that number piles up over time. It's the percent difference, remember. And it really begs to ask the question that, if people believe that a large dollar difference is a large dollar difference and small is small, and percent means nothing, then I ask again, what is that fine line where the dollar difference makes a difference for you guys?

It's like two gas stations right next to each other, one at $1.79 and one at $1.99 (oh man, I love using such low numbers as examples now! ). Which one are you going to go to? 20 cents isn't much of a difference... or is it? Remember that it's not just one 20 cent difference, but it's 20 times the number of gallons. Same for McDonald's... it's 20 times the number of burgers, and over time that difference becomes greater and greater.

Again, I'm not complaining about the price increase, I'm simply saying that I'll go somewhere else for what's nearly identically the same price because it was their value of that double cheeseburger that had me going there. Taste was second.

Though I may have the easier part, and though this doesn't pertain to commercials, whenever I see a movie I think of how the director went about a scene, and say, "Okay, here's how I could have made it better..." and do a revision. Not necessarily an entire re-creation, but changing things around, combining his first elements and adding finishing touches of my own. Of course, this is all in my opinion, but even in my favorite of movies (The Dark Knight) and directors (Christopher Nolan), he made choices that I didn't approve of, and wish he did a few different things to the things he already had.

Yeah, I have those ideas in my head. Have I thought up a McDonald's commercial? Not yet, but I'm sure that, with enough time, anybody could come up with a half-decent commercial.

BTW there are commercials that are recognizably bad as well, meaning just because the name got out there doesn't necessarily warrant anything good for the company itself. I talk about the Geico commercials all the time (the good ones with the cavemen and the bad ones with the gecko), but I don't act on them at all.

Anyway, for lunch it's either trying out the McDouble or going to Little Caesar's (lol I am so cheap). What's the meal of choice for me today?

EDIT: Wow, it's sad that I'm considering McDonald's after creating this thread...

Question, arent McDonalds franchised? I swear I heard that they were franchised and thats why different locations have different prices on certain items. In this thread alone I saw someone mention a price increase on Wendys Nuggets and yet they are still 1.00 here, the Double Cheeseburger at McDonalds is still a 1.00 as well. Just throwing it out there is all.

I don't understand why you care so much about the double cheesburger going to $1.19 when there is an alternative (the McDouble) still on the dollar menu. It is identical to the double cheese in every way except for one less piece of cheese. Tastes about the same. Who knows, maybe laying off the cheese could help all of us out health-wise.

One piece of that ****ty cheese isn't worth $0.19 to me so I'm gonna go with the McDouble from now on. Either that or switch to Wendy's for their delicious Jr. Bacon Cheeseburgers for only $0.99

I think that was the last thing I've eaten at McDonald's, and it was several months ago.

Brought them home for my wife and I (bought my son a Happy Meal), topped it with some vanilla bean ice cream, and had a pretty decent dessert.

                                Depends on where you go.

Around my way in the Bronx, they still have it. It's my one McDonalds vice. I love their apple pies.

About a month ago, I went to a McDonalds in Times Square, Manhattan, and I was ready to drop them $1.08 and all of a sudden, a price of $1.29 or something came up. Craziness.
