Because parents and judges are generally idiots. Nobody checks into rehab for weed, you are checked into rehab.

As it is, rehabbing kids for weed has proven to lead to harder drugs. Anyone who puts his or her child into rehab for weed is an idiot and should kill his or herself to prevent further harm to the child.

Marijuana is definitely a steppingstone drug
Whatever the most socially acceptable, most commonly available, and cheapest drug is in a society will be a "steppingstone" drug.

In America, they're alcohol, tobacco, and marijuana in that order.

In China back in the day, opium was the "steppingstone" drug.

My problem with the "gateway" theory is that something is always going to fill that spot. Even if alcohol, tobacco, and marijuana all disappeared, you'd have something taking their places (most likely benzos and opiates).

What's irritating is that most anti-weed people are people who haven't tried it, or politicians who have tried it, but are against it to please their constituents.

If if you've tried it, and you've actually gotten high (which doesn't usually happen the first couple times), then you'll understand how harmless it is. Social stigma and propaganda can make people believe anything.

So what's your plan on cocaine, heroin, ecstasy, and methamphetamine?

I'd be all for legalization, taxation, and using the tax funds for education.

I, personally, have no problem if individuals use them. I personally wouldn't use any of them, as I've seen what meth and heroin can do to someone. The other two just aren't my thing.

As long as they aren't out harming other individuals, who cares what they do? If you want to drink drain cleaner, be my guest, just don't violate my rights.

I might be fine with that, if there were penalties imposed for illegal use and acts. Say if you commit any crime while under the influence, commit a crime to get money to buy the drug, purchase the drug not from a legal source, buy/sell the drug for someone else, etc. The problem though would be that I don't think the punishment would be enough. Also I'm sure someone would then sue because the government would be trying to keep those who want to use the drugs enslaved to using them and spending their money.
