Man, some of you guys are unreal.
Something provoked that officer to draw his weapon. As far as shooting it, I don't know, but he obviously seen something that triggered him to draw down on the guy.
The other two officers were still fumbling around with the guy. He was obviously being targeted by 3 officers for a reason. Sure he was cooperating at the time, which is PROBABLY because he had 3 officers wrecking his ****, but why would there be 3 officers just "harassing" this poor, young man? He obviously did something to get that unwanted attention. Also, did it ever mention in the video if he had a weapon or not? Guess they failed to mention that in this video...
The guy could have been reaching for a weapon or some sort of instrument he could inflict pain with. The other 2 officers could not see that, where as the officer standing could. That is what probably shocked the other 2, unaware officers. No trained cop is just going to draw down on a man, yet alone just blast him if there is no reason. Especially in a public place with a ton of people present!
Sure, the pictures of Mr. Grant show him smiling, looking innocent and harmless, etc... That is because the media is trying to make you feel like he was just a victim of these big bad police officers who were just randomly pulling people off of trains to shoot them.
Until I hear the other side of this sugar coated story, I will stand by that officers side. No matter how much you hate the police, you have to know deep down that if that suspect had not done something, or had given some kind of sign that he would not have been drawn down on, yet alone shot.
Think about it. We don't know anything other than they just took him to the ground (again, why?) and ended up drawing their weapon on him.
Either way it is a sad story, but I won't even get into how the media will twist and turn things. Let's wait for the internal affairs department to investigate the officer and find out why did what he did. Until then, think about this -
It's so easy to take hours and sit back to critique a decision that someone made in under a second.
EDIT: I just watched the video again. Did you see the skirmish that took place seconds before the shooting? He was fighting, possibly reaching for something. Why do you think they got up so quickly? Because he was overpowering them? Who knows what he was going for! Remember, they were called there because of a fight. People carry knives and guns in fights. Maybe, just maybe they got word from someone detained that he was packing. Call me crazy, but maybe he went for it?
