Pretty much what I think as well. You're a bandwagon fan when you like the team when they're great but once they start to trend down you're no longer a fan. Now if you stick with a team through the highs and lows, the bandwagon fan label does not apply.

Exactly. I wouldn't care if Cebby started rooting for the Steelers tomorrow. I might question it, but what does it matter? Sports are entertainment and everybody should have fun while watching them. I was a Redskins fan when I was little because of a t-shirt I got on a field trip, but as I started to watch football, I rooted for the Giants along with my family....I still have a huge soft spot for the Skins because of that shirt...

I still DO think that people are bandwagoners, but I have realized that it doesn't matter. The term bandwagoner isn't necessarily a bad thing, unless the person being called it thinks it is.

I gotta agree with The C. I don't care who you root for. Whether you're from New York or China, and you root for the Yankees, good for you. We are all allowed to root for a team, and in my opinion, the only dumb asses are the ones who say that so and so isn't allowed to root for this team, since they don't live in that city/state.

Since I pull for the Cowboys, Rangers, and North Texas, am I considered bandwagon since I've always pulled for the Spurs instead of the Mavs?

            Re: Regarding people's favorite teams

I've lived in the DC/Northern VA/Baltimore suburbs since I was 3. Moved to Hawaii after high school for 3 years and moved back to Maryland. My teams have been the same since I went to my first games. Redskins/Orioles/Wizards/Capitals/Hoyas.

I started to take an interest in Florida State when I watched Charlie Ward play, but I really don't have a favorite college football team.

Feel free to root for who you choose, but for me the Ravens and Nationals are new to this area and I can't just get behind them. I can't stand those people though who are Ravens/Redskins fans. I know it's not a big rivalry averaging about 1 game every 2 years, but their fan bases HATE each other so how can anyone be in the middle like that. Same thing with the O's and Nat's not a big rivalry but the fan bases can't stand each other.

I know people who root for Giants/Jets and Yankees/Mets, but they are rare. I don't mind that either. The ONLY time I'm bothered by that is when it's Islanders/Rangers. That rivalry can't be enjoyed without picking a side.

                Re: Regarding people's favorite teams

Sports is entertainment. Simple as that. I personally think its stupid to be forced to root for a team just because you happen to live in that said City. I think once you pick a team you should stay loyal to the team. Unless the ownership show no interest in improving the team for period of time then I say you should be able to move on if you would like. I use an example like the Royals, Bengals, or Lions.

If a team isn't showing the effort to get better, then you shouldn't have to feel the need to put in effort to cheer for the team.

                  You hate me.

Honestly, I think it's stupid that the fan bases hate each other... or that that even matters. When we didn't have a team (and coverage wasn't nearly what it is today) I followed the Skins. Then I went to school in PA around a bunch of obnoxious Eagles fans and became even more of a Skins fan. Now I love the Ravens, live in Baltimore and work in No. Va so it's too easy to follow the Skins and I've got no reason not to like them. They play in a different conference and rarely play my boys. When they do, I'm behind the Ravens 100% but other than that, what's the big deal? Because clueless people from the Washington area want to call people from Baltimore names?

Oh trust me wwharton, it goes FAR behind the reasons as to why Bmore/DC have a dislike for each other lol.

I know when I was younger, even though I wasn't a Skins fan, I hated almost every single thing about Baltimore(growing up around DC, you would understand why lol)but as I got older I started to respect them and their fans because the one difference between Baltimore sports fans and DC Sports fans is that they were always realistic when it came to their teams.

Me personally, the only hometown team that I actually support is the University of Maryland Basketball team. All of my other favorite teams that I support, I always had a personal connection with them.

Trust, I know... I know you know I know, lol. It's just stupid. Honestly, the peopel we're talking about in Baltimore don't go anywhere. If they live in East Baltimore, they can barely tell you anything about West Baltimore, let alone DC. The people we're talking about in DC think they live in NYC South.

Anyway, not going to get into all that but I'm happy I can get around the clock coverage of the teams I like. I'm watching the Hoyas right now and I'm about to switch to the Terps. And on Sundays I have the Ravens on the main tv and the Skins on the other. Right now I'm loving every DC native who hates Baltimore and the Ravens, so they can be bitter about the playoffs. This town is jumpin, and it'll go up a huge notch if we win on Sunday. Why not take a little drive and be a part of it? Their loss.

BTW, PPM, forgot to tell you nice sig.

Ya'll are holding it down for us MD'ers so I figured I give ya'll my support until ya'll lose or when the Super Bowl. Then I can get back to my "Hate the Skins/Ravens" routine lol.

BTW, if ya'll win it all this year, it just makes our matchup between our teams next year that much sweeter. As soon as they release the date of when we play you guys, I'm right there on stubhub.com looking for tickets.

Just like you remember the Monday Night Massacre a few years back, I haven't forgotten the last time you guys came to Lambeau, fresh off a Super Bowl season.

Like others have said, you like who you like.

Listen, we were all kids at one time. Hell, some kids picked their favorite teams by team colors . I've always resided in Delaware, but I was a youth when the Cowboys were winning in the '90s and I jumped on the bandwagon then. What kid doesn't like the winningest team LOL?

Football was the first sport I genuinely liked. So the Cowboys was the only team I knew for quite a while. Then as I got older, I got more into enjoying basketball and some baseball. So at that point, I started to root for the local teams which would be Sixers & Phillies. Still, the Cowboys were my first sports team so I root for them to this day and forever more (hate the Eagles!) but root for all the other Philly teams.

                            Re: Regarding people's favorite teams

NFL - I became a Panthers when they came into existence in 1994/95. Prior to that I generally liked certain players, but didn't have a favorite team.

NCAA BB - I have been a Wake Forest college basketball fan since I was a small child as I was raised in the general area of Winston-Salem/High Point.

NCAA FB - I have been an Appalachian State college football fan for the last 3 years because two of my best friends are currently going to school there and I've been to two playoff games in person. Prior to that I wasn't much of a fan of college football.

NBA - I have been a Charlotte Hornets fan as long as I can remember, since they became an expansion team in the late 80s. Prior to that I was a Detroit Pistons fan because I liked the "tough guy" image they had in the 80s. I became a Charlotte Bobcats fan when the Hornets left and the Bobcats became my home team.

MLB - Never had a MLB baseball team in NC. I spent some time rooting for the Orioles and they are still my favorite AL team. I began rooting for the Dodgers and Oakland A's in the late 80s/early 90s because both teams had iconic figures and styles that I liked. Oakland had the Bash Brothers, Ricky Henderson, and a lot of role players that I liked and a swagger about them and the Dodgers had Tommy Lasorda, Kirk Gibson, Fernando Valenzuela, and Orel Hershiser. I rooted for Oakland after that sometimes, but mainly pulled for the Dodgers from then on until the last two years, when I also became a fan of the Cincinnati Reds. I like the city of Cincinnati. I've been to 3 Reds home games (the only MLB games I've attended in my life) and I enjoy watching the team. I will be a Reds fan first and a Dodgers fan second for the rest of my life more than likely. I'm going back to see the Reds play the Cubs this summer at the GABP.

NHL - I've never cared about hockey. NC isn't exactly hockey country and I feel bad that we have a hockey team.

                            NBA - Charlotte Hornets
                            MLB - Cincinnati Reds
                            College Basketball - Wake Forest
                            NCAA Football - Appalachian State

Moving this to the OS Neighborhood.

As for my own allegiances, I'm a Suns/Texans/Braves fan and I live in LA. There is absolutely no way I would ever root for a Los Angeles team, ever. My Suns/Braves relationship was established when I lived in Fresno, and I started liking the Texans because they were an expansion team who was going to draft the QB for my favorite college football team. Just because someone likes teams in dfiferent cities doesn't mean they're bandwagon fans.
