Other than wanting them to win and do well. Or in some cases paying taxes in order for them to pay for their billion dollar stadiums.

I'd wager that pro teams' fans are overwhelmingly connected by geography at one time or another. I'd imagine it's probably in the 80-90% range. Even higher when you throw out poor people.

Of course thats the main reason people like certain teams. I'd wager that about the same number of fans that like so and so college, like said college because of the location. I know if you go to Ohio for instance. That 95% of the population that watch sports are OSU fans.

Just like in pro sports though, they're going to be certain people that just don't like the hometown team.

Another pet peeve of mine is someone who has professional teams in his city/state but end up rooting for whatever team is doing good in that sport at the moment. I mean have some respect for your city/state's team man.

Am I alone in the way I'm thinking or am I just spoiled being a New Yorker? Btw Giants will come back stronger next year!!
I agree that it's somewhat annoying. Bandwagon fans are the worst.

I have connections to all of my favorite teams.

I graduated from OU and have lived in Oklahoma my whole life. Thus I am an OU fan and root for the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Oklahoma doesn't have a MLB team. I have family in St. Louis and we used to travel to a Cardinals game once a year. That was back when Joe Torre was the manager and Ozzie Smith led the Cards. Therefore, I have been a Cardinals fan for as long as I can remember.

I have a lot of friends that live in the Dallas area and I travel down there a few times a year for various reason. Also, the Cowboys are the closest pro team to my city besides the Chiefs. I have been a Cowboys fan since the early 90's. I'm obviously not a bandwagon fan because the Cowboys have sucked for a number of years.

And it's just funny how every person I know that has no connections to a school (location or attendance) is an FSU, OSU, Notre Dame, Miami, or USC fan.

Granted, for the most part I just smile and nod, but there are two in particular on the CFB board who like to act very arrogantly about schools they never went to. Obviously your school will have had more success than mine considering each of you decided to pick the most successful program in the country at the time.

Believe me, I know what you mean.

I was actually accepted to Michigan but got basically a free ride to Olivet College. So it was basically an easy decision for me.

I used to support both the Michigan basketball and football programs, until the whole booster scandal with the basketball team. My mom graduated from UNC so I decided to jump on the bandwagon.

Thats basically the only bandwagon I've ever jumped on. Unlike most people though. I will admit that I jumped on the bandwagon.

                I'm so sorry...

Seriously though, that's pretty rare. Congrats on finding a good job in the area and not having to move. I would have liked for the wife and I to stay in Colorado (not where we were born, but where we spent the majority of our lives) and yet, we've moved several times and love the Twin Cities.

                  It's pretty funny.

I used to see Florida State gear in Oklahoma all of the time. Then it was Miami and now I see considerable USC gear. I had one friend goto USC but other than that, I can not understand why I see so much of it in Oklahoma.

Has anyone else noticed a lot of Patriots gear? My next door neighboors are from right outside of Boston so I don't have a problem with them sporting their Brady jerseys during their Superbowl party, but I find it odd when I see someone at the gym or mall suited up in Patriots gear.

I lived in LA as a kid, so that's where all my pro rooting interests lie. My dad was a MD grad, and they were really the only college team I supported until I attended UVa, then they became my team by default.

For the most part, I don't have a problem with people rooting for whatever teams they like. If someone roots for the Twins, Eagles, and Mavericks, so be it. But, as stated before, the Yankees/Lakers/Cowboys combos are unacceptable.

The whole liking a randomly good team from across the country with no connections to them when you were 6 years old thing just doesn't hold up.

You either A) couldn't have been THAT big of a fan to still be a hardcore fan 20 years later or B) should have gotten to the age where you figured out that it was ******** that you still claim them as your team because they were the best when you first started watching.

Duke basketball/FSU or Miami football is the worst for males in their early 20's right now.

Unless your parents went there and were hardcore fans that had you watching every game from a young age or something.....then your argument is probably pretty weak.

Even I was smart enough at 6 years old to realize I couldn't randomly pick the best team across the country (or even in my region) and fake a love for them that would last the rest of my life.

Yeah I don't really care about what pro teams people cheer for unless, like I said, they have multiple favorite in the same sport or are clear bandwagoners.

Lol. Well I like Wally Sczerbiak (definitely spelled that wrong). While playing NBA 2k7 I always played as the Celtics (worst team) and he always came up with the big 3.
