    Re: Regarding people's favorite teams

The thing that boggles my mind is trying to figure out the people who go to one school but root for a different one. This is not uncommon here in Michigan, where there are people out there who have attended a "directional" university (Eastern, Central or Western Michigan) but are die-hard fans of Michigan football or Michigan State basketball. Root for your own MAC team darnit.

I'm in Canada so it's not like I'm gonna like all the teams from a state/city.

        Re: Regarding people's favorite teams

I have always like Boston teams. Then I kinda have teams that I like, but don't completely follow (Braves and Red Wings are all that really come to mind). I'll be honest, when I first started liking hockey I liked the way the Red Wings played and they won all the time. The Braves came from TBS.
I don't like the Yankees, I like the Red Sox, I don't like the Lakers, I like the Celtics, I hate the Canadiens and I love the Bruins. Soccer is the best sport on Earth, but most Americans are too ignorant to realize it. I am American.

I never understood how a person can be a fan of Duke Basketball and Florida football without any ties to either school.

          It boggles my mind.

When I was born in Charlotte we did not have a football team at the time so I picked up being a Miami Dolphins fan from my dad, who is from there.

I also picked up being a Dodgers fan from my family because we have no team in Charlotte, and we did not like the Braves. I use to have family in that general area. So some of us don't have the benefit of living in a city with all the sports team, or even just one for that matter.

Whenever caught in an argument with one of these folks, the funniest thing to do is ask them if and when they graduated from that university.
It shuts them up pretty quickly.

I can understand not being able to choose who you like and stuff. I just don't get not liking the team in your city/state(that you grew up in, not if you just moved to). Honestly I don't, but I guess that's me being a spoiled New Yorker lol. Having a team in all major sports except college football . I don't like ND, though technically they're not in the NY area but I hear people around here tend to clang on to them as "their college team".

I didn't mean to come out like an *** but I was just curious how/why people like their teams.

lol yankeepride, I hear you about the Knicks, I root for the Giants so I was happy about last year, sad about this year though ;;. Don't worry man, come 2010 we can be happy with our Knicks once again.

I also like the Jets to do well, I'm a New York fan. I rather have my teams be winning Championships though, just wish it'll be in "subway series" type games.

                      Re: Regarding people's favorite teams

I started liking Florida football when I was 7 because I liked their Gators logo.

I started liking Duke when I was 5 or 6 because I would always watch my grandfather's "1992 Sports Illustrated Year In Review" tape that had Laettner's shot on it.

I started liking the Orioles when I started to follow baseball in 2001 because of Cal.

I started liking the Suns because I got a Charles Barkley jersey for Christmas one year when I was little.

I liked the Rams when I was younger, stopped watching football for awhile, then picked up the Browns because I thought I was going to be in their area for 4 years, plus I liked Braylon and BQ.

I've been a Flyers fan for as long as I can remember.

My soccer teams I started to like when I began to follow the sport because I liked certain players on each team.

I fail to see how that is bandwagon, and the whole regional rule annoys me to no end.

I have a giant problem when I see people in Cleveland wearing Ravens stuff.

That angers me to no end. That and Red Sox/Yankees bandwagoners are the only ones I really dislike.

I was always a fan of the regional team, mainly because that's what I grew up watching.

Eh... I don't know. I lived in West Virginia and there aren't exactly any professional sports teams to choose from there. My favorite collegiate team is no doubt WVU, but my professional teams are all over the place, as I really had no one to pick.

                          So my favorites are...

West Virginia basketball and football: Well, this is obvious. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Boston Red Sox/Tampa Bay Rays: When I was like two, my dad bought me a Red Sox hat from a trip to Boston and I've liked them ever since. My grandpa took me to a ton of Tampa Bay Rays games when I was little (Back when they sucked horribly, LOL), so I've always liked them second best. This year the Rays actually decided to be good, though! I'm not a huge baseball fan either way, though, so yeah.

Jeff Gordon: I've liked him ever since I was like two years old. I have no idea why I started liking him, but I can't remember watching a NASCAR race and not liking Gordon. And I've always hated Rousch Racing for whatever reason. I have no idea why. It's been eight years without a championship, though. C'mon, Jeff!

Carolina Panthers: I was actually born in North Carolina, though raised in West Virginia, so I always liked the Panthers since they were created back in the 90s. I guess the Steelers may be #2 since I lived amongst a ton of a Steelers fans most of my life.

San Antonio Spurs: My friend, who was from Texas (His dad was working at the Toyota Plant at Buffalo, WV), got me into the NBA back in the early 2000s and he liked the Spurs, so I did too. And ever since, they've won three championships. Go figure.

Most of my teams have had pretty good runs lately, but I know my time will come to suck.

I don't have a problem with bandwagoners as long as they stay on the bandwagon. I know there's no way I'll switch teams (Barring the Panthers moving to another city or something like that, and of course when Jeff Gordon retires in another 10 or so years). Are most Bulls fans original bandwagoners? Sure, but they've stuck with them through thick and thin and I have no problem with that. That's not really bandwagoning IMO.

Yeah, I agree OSUFan_88. The teams I like I grew up actually watching and were NY teams. I don't know and I hope I don't sound to much like an *** but isn't it kinda silly to like a team because of their colors or something? Well lol I can see it as a kid though so can't blame them I guess. I remember my favorite colors growing up were white and green because of Tommy from Power Rangers >.>;;;;;. Hell I still believe he's the man lmao!

I hate all Boston teams!!!! Man it was hard last year in the NBA Finals, Boston vs LA. Either way I couldn't win. I ended up cheering for Boston(forgive me New Yorkers!) because I wanted KG to get a ring. But on the other side is I loved the Super Bowl. Beating the "greatest team of all time" who happened to be the "Boston" team of the NFL, oh did I love that lol. Not to mention it was a great game.

I've never gotten people who have teams all over the map and/or multiple "favorite" teams in the same sport. It's pretty clear that they are just bandwagoners.
