If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :) -
Re: Regarding people's favorite teams
That's how it is here with OSU and I don't get it. There are people that have no one in their family who ever went to OSU and don't go there themselves but they say they love the school.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Re: Regarding people's favorite teams
Is it just me or do you lose any and all respect for someone who's favorite teams in each sport are in different cities? Like some one liking the Yankees in baseball then the Lakers in basketball. I mean, really?! That's just a plain old bandwagon fan right there.
Another pet peeve of mine is someone who has professional teams in his city/state but end up rooting for whatever team is doing good in that sport at the moment. I mean have some respect for your city/state's team man.
Am I alone in the way I'm thinking or am I just spoiled being a New Yorker? Btw Giants will come back stronger next year!!
What about if someone is from one city, but likes a team in another city that is not a winning team. Are they bandwagoners too?Yankees, Manchester United, Chicago Bears, New York RangersComment

Re: Regarding people's favorite teams
Braves fan born in NC. Moved to Texas, became a Stars fan when they moved to Dallas.
Never been a big enough football or basketball fan to latch onto any one team. I kind of liked the Packers and the Bucs for a while in the 90s, I'll plead guilty to some bandwaggonry there.Last edited by bravosfan; 01-16-2009, 04:14 PM.Comment

Re: Regarding people's favorite teams
As long as you stick with the team, your fine.
Someone mentioned college teams, and I think it's ok to like a school that you didn't go to, and to like different teams for football and basketball. Most people choose their teams when they are kids, and at that point it's basically no different than picking pro teams. You aren't saying you love that university, you are saying you love that team. I was a uconn fan growing up and ended up going to uconn so it doesn't matter, but if say, I decided to go to Syracuse instead for some reason, there's no way I'd switch over to being a Syracuse fan
Exactly. Most people didn't even know what the word bandwagoner meant when they decided what teams they liked.
When I was young and decided what teams I was going to support. I made some good choices (Michigan Football, UNC Basketball). But I also made some bad ones (Bengals and Cubs).
As long as you stand by those teams to a certain degree. I don't have a problem."The academic support at Ohio State, there is no way you can fail. Even if you're giving minimal effort there is no way you can fail."

Not everybody can go to the school that they like."The academic support at Ohio State, there is no way you can fail. Even if you're giving minimal effort there is no way you can fail."

Re: Regarding people's favorite teams
It still doesn't make sense for me to like a school that you don't go to and have no connection to. Fans of pro teams in different places makes some sense but for college it doesn't.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Re: Regarding people's favorite teams
Whats really the difference between the two?
Other than the fact that pro athletes get paid and College athletes don't. Both are televised forms of entertainment and they are both big business. Some people are just drawn to the pagentry of College athletics more. So most people want to have someone to cheer for when they watch the games. So like any other sports the more successful teams are going to have the larger fanbases.Last edited by ZM Punk; 01-16-2009, 05:30 PM."The academic support at Ohio State, there is no way you can fail. Re: Regarding people's favorite teams
If you didn't go to College or went to a College that didn't have Division 1 programs like I did. Why do you have to support your state or local University?"The academic support at Ohio State, there is no way you can fail. Even if you're giving minimal effort there is no way you can fail."

Re: Regarding people's favorite teams
I root for players not teams. The one exception is the Chicago Bears. But that developed from them being my team in Super Tecmo Bowl.
I was a Kenny Anderson, Delino DeShields and Randall "The Thrill" Hill fan growing up. I had a New Jersey Nets jersey, Montreal Expos jersey and my mom made me a 81 Hill phoenix cardinal jersey. Those were my heros growing up.
All three of these players played for a lot of teams and therefore I have never really been a fan of anyone. I grew up in rural Ohio and there are no professional teams less than 2 hours or more away.
Currently I root for Georgia Tech, Wright State, Chicago Bears, Cleveland Browns, Cincinnati Reds and all of the NBA (I want the NBA to be the #1 league and basketball the #1 sport worldwide at some point in my life).
Am I a bandwagon fan? I guess if bandwagons form around players that don't reach their potential.Comment

Re: Regarding people's favorite teams
Well maybe bandwagon wasn't the right word. I mean if you're a fan of a team for all your life and don't stumble in loyalty then obviously you're not a bandwagon fan. Though a case can be made for a Yankee/Lakers/Cowboys fan for example.
You say it's idiotic to have to root for the regional team, I say the opposite. It's idiotic not too. Especially you older people, before satellite, league packages and the internet. How did you watch your games if your favorite team was across the country? Besides the occasional MNF game or the equivalent for the other sports. Hell you couldn't even read about them in a local paper besides box scores.
Only way to see them was on the highlight reel for ESPN. People say what if their local team has people they don't like. You ROOT for your home state team, the jersey, not the players. You can always root for players on other teams to do well as well. I have players on other teams I like as well. What's the point of rooting for some team half way across the country? You can't even go to their games and no I'm not saying you need to go to the games to be a real fan. Especially with the prices, but you at least have a option if you're team wasn't thousands of miles away.
Maybe you guys are true fans of the team now, you're all grown up and all. But you can't tell me because you liked the color or logo when you were a kid and got attached to them because of it is a valid reason not to root for your home city/state team. I just can't buy that. Obviously they're exceptions like military "brats" or dad being a fan of HIS home town team and liking his team because he being dad and all. So like I said, bandwagon wasn't the right word when I made the topic because most if not all of you are loyal to your teams at least I hope so. I just didn't know what other word to use.Last edited by Oezeo; 01-17-2009, 10:17 PM.Fan of NYY,NYG,NYK

Re: Regarding people's favorite teams
You don't have to, I just don't see why anyone would be a fan of a school that they didn't and won't ever attend and have no connection to the school at all.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters.
