    Regarding people's favorite teams

Is it just me or do you lose any and all respect for someone who's favorite teams in each sport are in different cities? Like some one liking the Yankees in baseball then the Lakers in basketball. I mean, really?! That's just a plain old bandwagon fan right there.

Another pet peeve of mine is someone who has professional teams in his city/state but end up rooting for whatever team is doing good in that sport at the moment. I mean have some respect for your city/state's team man.

Am I alone in the way I'm thinking or am I just spoiled being a New Yorker? Btw Giants will come back stronger next year!!

Well...I was born and raised in VA, and there are no professional teams in the Hampton Roads area.

However, my pops was from South Jersey (Pennsville), and my first professional sports experience in all major sports were Philadelphia teams.

Ever since that first time in the city in 1989 for my first pro baseball gm, Cubs vs Phillies at the vet, I've been a Philadelphia sports fan.

So where do I fall according to your standards?

I do agree w/ you according to people supporting their home team...if they have one.

I came across lots of different people during my days in the Marine Corps who were from i.e. Atlanta, and rooted for the Falcons in football but the Lakers in basketball and different scenarios like that.

It is a little annoying, but if thats the way that person chooses to be then so be it.

Well I guess my first point is tied into my second. If you're in a state that doesn't have a team in some or any sport then their isn't much you can do but pick a team. But I would think you would pick the team that is closest to you. Or like you said, root for your dad's team.

Like you said, if that's how the person's chooses to be then well can't do anything about it. Just that I personally lose some respect for said person, at least in terms of sports talk lol.

I guess I'm a "bandwagon" fan since i've been a Dolfan since 92' even tho I was born, raise and currently reside in Philly....It doesn't matter where you are from, you like who you like...by your theory every player should play for their home team....

But I do dislike those guys who don't really watch sports and just root for whomever are the best team in the league...Better yet I respect diehard fans no matter if they are from LA and root for the Yankees, if they are a die hard Yankees fan and not a so so Yankees fan, then I have full respect for that person.....

Players aren't the same as fans. If I got millions of dollars to root for some one I would and I'm sure everyone would too even if it's your favorite teams rival. The thing is juk34man is that Yankee fan from L.A., did he become a Yankee fan because Dodgers sucked or all the other Cali teams sucked and the Yankees are for the most part always good every year? Or did he become a Yankee fan even though Dodgers were good, which is worst imo. Is that really a fan? To become a fan because that team is doing good?

I am from texas, and the Rams have been my fave since 1978, even though I have never even been to California.

I like the Cards also, mainly because Kurt Warner is my most admired sports star ever. However, I did like them a little before Warner played for them, and they were one of the few teams I wanted him to go to when he left the Rams.

I haven't cared much for the Cowboys since the early 90s, when Jerry Jones took over. Still, though, if the Cowboys win, I am happy for my friends who are Cowboys fans (unless they're playing the Rams or Cards).

I have to agree mostly with the OP. It does get on my nerves for the most part as well. But, what really gets me going is "College Bandwagonitis." For example, someone may like UNC Basketball, but their favorite college football team is Florida. You can't have it both ways.

But, I see where some other people are coming from as well. If you don't live in a large market area, you can't really root for the team in your area.

I am from NC, and when I was growing up we didn't have any pro sports teams. I liked the Dallas Cowboys, and the Chicago Bulls, and the New York Mets. I can easily see how someone could say that I was a "bandwagon" fan, but it was hardly the case. Now, I like the Panthers, Bobcats, and I still follow the Mets, because we will probably never get a Baseball team.

                It depends on the situation.

Every Cowboys/Lakers/Yankee fan should be exterminated. Even if they have legitimate claims to Texas/LA/NY, statistically they should be a fan of at least one of Texans/Clippers/Mets.

Otherwise, it depends on the teams. It's generally pretty easy to tell a whore from a non-whore.

Not at all, I think you're an idiot if you do.

My best friend (we grew up in CT) is a Bengals, Sonics (Thunder), White Sox, Bruins, Georgetown basketball and Notre Dame football fan and he's been that way since before elementary school. How is he a bandwagoner if he's never liked a team outside of those six?

I guess an exception would be if you started liking them in like 2004 or actually attended both schools, but by and large it's bandwagoning.

When your six years old you aren't smart enough to be classified as bandwagoner. You watch what's on TV, which of course is the good teams by and large. Of course G'Town and ND were good in the late 80's, on TV alot and so my friend became a fan. It's not like he started off as a UConn fan and then became a G'Town fan or had no interest in the sport and then decided to become a Notre Dame fan when he was 20.

Born in columbus, and proud to be a Michigan fan. Also a TB fan in the NFL. You like who you like. People are attracted to teams for different reasons.

I started liking Michigan at a young age b/c my dad liked them, then I went on to become a true fan of them instead of a fan b/c my dad was cheering for them.

I started watching alot of NFL around 97-99 when the Bucs's D was coming together. Their D attracted me and I instantly became a Bucs fan.

I don't really care about what teams people like. I might give a little light ribbing but it really doesn't matter

I'm 30 minutes from Philadelphia, and the only Philly team that I am a fan of are the Flyers (only team my dad follows). Otherwise, I'm a Buffalo Bills, Cincinnati Reds, Boston College Eagles, and New Orleans Hornets fan.

I basically picked these teams using video games. I used the Bills in Tecmo Super Bowl, the Reds in MLB games, and the Hornets because of NBA Jam (when they were in Charlotte). I like BC because of Doug Flutie, my favorite NFL player of all time.

You can call me a bandwagon fan if you like being wrong.

I think you are a bandwagon fan when you like a team and then disown them at the first chance when they start doing bad. You should be able to like whomever you like, but you have to stick with them. For example, I've been a Raiders fan since the Bo Jackson days and lord knows they absolutely, positively suck now, but I still wear the gear and rep them.
