Re: Your best ever moment as a sports fan?
- 1998 BCS championship game
- Super Bowls 16, 19, 23, 24 and 29
- 1995 World Series
- Peerless Price returning a kickoff for a TD against Alabama in 98 with me on the field behind the end zone taking pictures. He ran right to me.
Then there was October 5, 1991. My grandfather lived in Atlanta and every summer we'd go to a Braves game. Even when I lived in California, we'd make it back to Atlanta for a few weeks every summer to see my grandparents and he and I would make it to Fulton County Stadium to see the Braves, who were basically terrible at this time.
Anyway, in the summer of 91, I was getting ready to go to UT. And for whatever reason, we weren't able to make it to a game. But sometime around the All-Star break, he and I looked at the schedule and decided to buy tickets for a Saturday game in early October against the Astros. The Braves were something like 9.5 games behind the Dodgers at that point, but they had been so awful for so long that that was actually pretty good for them.
As the summer wore on, the Braves got hot and closed the gap and actually got into the race for the division. They became a hot ticket and most of their games were actually sold out. But we already had our tickets.
The Friday before our game, my grandfather drove from Atlanta to Knoxville to get me. We had dinner at Copper Cellar on the strip and then headed back to Atlanta. We listened to the Braves game on the radio in the car. Steve Avery was pitching. At this point, with three games left in the season, the Braves were tied with the Dodgers for the division lead.
The Braves finished off beating the Astros just about the time we got to my grandparents' house. My grandfather, exhausted from driving all day, went to bed. I stayed up watching the Dodgers and Giants on ESPN. When the Giants won, I woke my grandfather up to tell him the Braves had the lead and could possibly clinch the division title Saturday.
The next day, my grandfather, his brother and I headed to Fulton County Stadium, stopping at a Turtles music store so I could buy a Braves t-shirt. They handed out white tomahawks at the stadium - I've still got all three of them. John Smoltz pitched a complete game and leapt into Greg Olson's arms as the Braves won 5-2 to clinch at least a tie for the division. While Smoltz leaping into Olson's arms was the iconic image, I remember watching Ron Gant leap onto David Justice's back as they ran in from the outfield. My grandfather wanted to leave to beat the crowd. I told him good luck explaining to my grandmother why he left me at the stadium.
The jumbotron then said "Meanwhile ... in San Francisco" and they put the Dodgers-Giants game on. We stayed and watched as the Dodgers hit into a game-ending double play to give the Braves the division title. The players came back out on the field to celebrate.
I doubt that moment will ever be topped for me.Comment

Re: Your best ever moment as a sports fan?
Well pretty much anything on Watson's list works, although I wasn't much of an LSU baseball fan until around '08.
I wasn't that big of a Marlins fan in '03, but living in the area I wanted them to win so I though the Alex Gonzalez walk off HR in the 11th inning of game 3 of the WS was pretty cool.
Saints SB, I almost tore my ACL Gramatica style while celebrating.
Saints@Phins '09, they were down like 21 or something at one point and I was at the game. So depressed the 1st half since were getting wrecked and Phins fan giving me major ****. Was a few rows back in the end zone for that TD where Bush flew like 6 yards. The end of the game was awesome, thousands of Saints fan chanting Who Dat throughout the stadium into the parking lot.
UF-LSU '07, one of the greatest football games I have ever seen and I absolutely hated UF as I couldn't stand hearing about them living in South FL.
LSU/Bama '11 Pt. 1, a video of me freaking the f out on youtube says it all.
Clemson/FSU '12, another game I was at. Atmosphere was unreal, very similar to the OU game before except winning is nice.
Virginia/FSU bball '11, was ready to leave with 2 min to go then Michael Snaer hits an insane 3 with 2 seconds left to complete the comeback.Saints, LSU, Seminoles, Pelicans, Marlins, LightningComment

This is my absolute favorite. I just wasn't expecting much that year, and did not see them beating Detroit in five games.

Re: Your best ever moment as a sports fan?
The 2006 AFC Championship game, Colts vs Patriots. I would say SB 41, but that victory over the Pats, at home, the way we did it and after years of failing, was something special. Amazing game. Never felt so much joy from a sports game as I did when Marlin Jackson intercepted Brady to seal the game.

Re: Your best ever moment as a sports fan?
Being an unticketed fan at Busch Stadium for Game 7 of the 2011 World Series, the entire run leading up to that starting on August 27th, Willie McGee bobblehead night, and everything in between.
That's when the season turned around and I started seeing the GB number slowly falling. I kept telling my old roommate that we were on fire and had a good chance at making the playoffs, but he just kept writing them off, along with everyone else, including the Cardinals themselves.
The next day, Sunday the 28th, I was walking by the authentics store in right field behind the scoreboard. They were having a "wait until next year sale" outside where everything under the tent was $12. They were selling small things like Shelby Miller and Zach Cox autographed baseballs along with pictures and stuff.Comment

Re: Your best ever moment as a sports fan?
I have PLENTY from the Suns, Texans, Sabres, and Braves and I'll think and try to compile a list, but I really don't think anything has truly matched the euphoria I felt at this moment. The fact that EVERY SINGLE fan that was watching was feeling the same exact thing and did the same exact thing once it happened is just something that, I don't know, I can't even put it into words.

Re: Your best ever moment as a sports fan?
I'm an AZ cardinals fan but even though we lost SB 43 that touchdown by Larry Fitzgerald was my favorite moment ever as a sports fan it had me thinking "we might win this we are the underdogs and we pulled this off!" Best to my dismay the steelers scored
(James Harrison didn't make it into the end zone and there was like 14 uncalled holds and an uncalled clipping on that play) (Holmes did indeed catch the ball though)Comment
