Re: What is your WORST moment as a sports fan?

2010 (I forget which week) Bucs/49ers - My first regular season game at The Stick that I had ever gone to and it was a 21-0 shutout. Horrible. The playcalling in that game was ridiculous too. Gore up the gut, Gore up the gut, incomplete pass, punt all game long. I was pissed.

2011 NFC Championship Game - I saw this at a sports bar that night, and the drive home (which was only like 10 mins) felt like an eternity. That sucked.

Super Bowl XLVII - This is easily the worst of the three. I wanted to jump out of a window at halftime. I felt even worse after the 4th down throw to Michael Crabtree.

It maybe weird but as a niner fan the 2012 NFC Championship game hurt ALOT worst than the Super Bowl loss. Maybe because most of my fandom with the team consisted of them losing and for that group to get that far is by far my proudest moment as a fan. Also a good friend who I watched the game with was a Ravens fan (a true fan) so I was more happy for him than losing.

Maybe im weird though. : )

Re: What is your WORST moment as a sports fan?

2004 World Series: The Cardinals had one of their best teams in history only to run into the buzzsaw of the "team of destiny" Boston Red Sox.

2001 Super Bowl: There was still time on the clock when Vinatieri's FG went through. I was shouting "we have a chance on the kickoff!" for about 30 seconds before I realized the confetti, reporters, and gatorade were not coming off the field to finish the game.

Steve Yzerman's OT goal against the Blues to eliminate them from the playoffs. That team had Brett Hull, Chris Pronger, Al MacInnis, Wayne Gretzky...how in the F did we lose?

Josh Hamilton's HR in the top of the 10th in the 2011 WS, game 6: After Freese hit that triple, I felt like it was impossible for the Cardinals to lose (apparently it was, but...). Then Hamilton, who hadn't done anything the entire WS, crushes a ball over the fence to give the Rangers a 2 run lead again.

Steroids testimony in Congress and the ensuing aftermath: finding out McGwire, Sosa, Clemons, Palmeiro, etc. all did steroids was heartbreaking.

Daryl Kile's death. I was so in shock for a couple of days, it was like he was a family member or something.

Since this thread was started, there has been plenty:

                  Artest's tip-in

                  2012 Wild Card Play-in Game

                  2011 Braves collapse

Germany's exit in the 2010 World Cup and 2012 Euro Cup

Sabres/Flyers Games 6 and 7 in 2011. Game 6 was an OT loss on Easter, Game 7 was an ***-kicking.

2010 stretch of the Texans losing to SD (Andre's blunder), Jacksonville
(Glover Quin's swat), and New York (Sanchez drive down field in 50 sec). Come to think of it, the entire 2010 Texans season can go **** itself.

                  Jacoby's Fumble

Cushing getting his knee---and our Super Bowl hopes---blown the **** out last year against the Jets on MNF.

.....first few that came to mind. But there were some great moments since my last post in this thread too, like Landon Donovan's goal against Algeria.

Portland was never down 3-2. They won games 3-6.

1998 NFC Championship Game: Gary Anderson (who was known in our household as "MR. AUTOMATIC!") missing that kick in ATL.

2009 NFC Championship Game: I was CONVINCED we were gonna win the Super Bowl, it was our year. Favre was having a magical year, Adrian was Adrian, and we had just dismantled the Cowboys the week before. I was mad about that game for a long time, so many damn turnovers.

South Carolina's lost to Clemson back in 2000. Rod Gardner clearly pushes off and no offensive pass interference is called. Clemson kicks a FG in the closing seconds. Got trashed talked by some old ladies on the way to the car.

Seeing Marcus Lattimore get his leg snapped against Tennessee. Kid had just started getting back to his old self after tearing his ACL the year before.

The Steelers losing Super Bowl XLV to the Packers. That were terrible. Just eliminate one of those turnovers and it could have lead to a win.

Or it could be the Cardinals meltdown against Barry Zito. That was even worse because it sent the offense into a tailspin.
