    Re: Casinos & Gambling

I dont know what people have against slots. I love them, regardless of how repetitive they are. I got up 600 on a Deal or No Deal slot machine one time in Vegas, and my gf went up 700 on a triple diamond slot.

Anyway, if I want to spend a lot of time with my money i do black jack. The tips people have said are pretty much the standard, but another thing I look at are the people I am playing with's cards.

    Like...

Say dealer is showing 9, meaning you (as a player) need to get at least 19 to be considered safe.

Well, say the table goes like this
    player 1 - 20
    player 2 (you) - 12
    player 3 - 14
    player 4 - 16

Say I get a 5 which brings me to 17, well... book says I should hit since the dealer could be showing 19. But the way BJ works out (imo, after playing for a number of years) is the way the numbers add up. So, looking at the next players cards (14) I can pretty much assume that the next card is a 6 or a 7 which would make me bust, but make the next player get 20 or 21.

So since I stay, I make the flow of the game stay perfect.

Now, if I would have hit, I would have busted and maybe now the next card is a 2 (which, if i would have stayed would give player 4, 18) which brings player 4 to 16 and really screwed as they have to hit again.

I dunno, I always feel the game is very depended on teamwork

If you're worried about not knowing what to do in Blackjack, go to a convenience store out there, or even a gift shop. They have little cards (the size of a business card) that show you what to do on hands in blackjack. If the dealer is showing X and you have Y, it tells you to hit or stay. I bought one for my girlfriend (now wife) when we went a few years back. She relied on it pretty heavily and did alright (made money). I then gave it to a guy who was absolutely KILLING me by not knowing what he was doing.

Most of all, have fun. The best tip i can give you, is any money you take with you out there, expect to lose it, that way if you win or come back with money its a nice surprise. If you cant afford to lose it, dont put it on the table

The actual best odds in a casino are taking the odds in craps and doubling up in video poker. They are the only two places in any casino in which the casino has no edge on the payout and you are paid exactly true odds.

Craps is an itimidating game to most because of all the different bets that can be made, the number of people at the table and the overall fast pace of the game. If you go with a simple strategy and stay away from the middle of the table, you can a) have hours of fun and a roller coaster of emotions (your bankroll will go up and down) and a pretty good chance of walking out with a little extra cash.

If you play the pass line and take the odds when you want, the houses edge is very small considered to almost any other bet in a casino. If you simply play this and place bets (bets on the big numbers [4,5,6,8,9,10]-not the field), you're odds are about as good as your going to find. You will win and lose throughout the night, but you'll have a helluva lot of fun.

Also, set your expectations in advance. If you go on a big or busy weekend, you're going to see higher minimums at the tables. Probably $25 for Black Jack and $10 or $15 for Craps (slot machines don't change). On a slow night, you can usually find $10 (and even $5) black jack. Each casino is different and there are always one's with lower min's, but you'll have to look for them. I've only been to Vegas a few times, but in Reno, a lot of the older casino's have the cheaper tables, so maybe the same holds true in Vegas.

Also, drinks are free-tip your waitress/waiter for better service. Make sure you keep a bunch of singles on you (chips or cash).

here's a tip: never start gambling. It can become a serious problem. There are better things in life. Why give your money away when you can buy something instead? Vegas is overrated.

Exactly. Don't bring money you can't afford to lose. If you do if for entertainment value, then there is nothing wrong with it. If you do it to try and put your kid through school or to try and pay your mortgage, then yeah, stay away.

You can take $200 (or even $100) to a $5 craps table and have several hours of fun and maybe walk away with some extra cash (or walk away $200 less). You can take the same $200 and play golf at a really nice club or take your girl out to a really nice dinner or go to a strip club, etc. It's all entertainment if you are doing it for fun.
