Thanks for your service my friend.
LOL!!! I will be there. And we would be needing that bail money I think.

I flew to Fort Drum with 5 guys who had never landed in an airplane before. The stewardess said, "oh, you never flown before?" No, they said, just never landed. Got to Fort Drum in the dark in early April. Woke up and stepped outside on old post and with snow banks higher than the two story buildings I thought I was in Alaska.
When rookie Randall Cobb was told by this U.S. Marine that he was a big fan of the wide receiver, Cobb said, “I think I’m a bigger fan of yours.”

I have nothing but respect for you guys. Everything you all go through to protect us. It's just amazing. My cousin tells me about the training he goes through and
I have no idea how he or anyone else does it. He is actually going to afghanistan in June and is going to miss my wedding. Sucks because he and his brother were like my little brothers growing up and he isn't going to be Able to be in my wedding.

I thought about joining out of HS, back in 99. But my grandfather, a WWII vet was very against it. Plus, the recruiters were too pushy.

I am way off topic here. Thanks to all that have served and are serving our country.

Not off topic at all. Thanks for sharing man. I hope your friends get through their tours safely. I'll be honest. I have a 13 year old that wants to go to West point and become a Ranger. I am taking the same approach with him as your grandfather took with you. My father served,my brother served,I served. That's enough from this family.

Best duty station without a doubt was Camp Darby Italy. American Beach in Tirrenia...YES!!!

              Naw...just joking.

Me. United States Marine born on Parris Island on August 25th, 2000 (2nd Bn, Plt 2065, Hotel Co). Came in as a reservist, spent 8 mos on it, hated it, and went active duty to Japan (Okinawa). Entered A/D as a 3043 Supply Admin - In the rear w/ the gear oohrah!

Best MOS in the Marine Corps, lots of characters.

Arrived in Japan about 2 weeks prior to Sept. 11th., and after receiving etc. ended up being 1 of 8 lucky Marines who got to head over to mainland as FAPs from Camp Foster. Spent my yr overseas on beautiful Camp Fuji -Only CAX for Marines overseas.

Had been there about half a week when Sept. 11th occurred. Remember it like it was yesterday..., had just field-dayed the room, tucked myself into my rack, and BANG BANG BANG at my door it was Cpl. Grothe telling me the WTC was just bombed. For the next 1 1/2 to 2 mos., me and about every other swinging d*ck (Cpl and below) were on 6hrs on 6hrs off firewatch posts all over the tiny little installation.

Sitting on top of a barracks over looking an ASP, holding my M-16 A2 w/ 30 rounds at the ready, and being told by SNCOs that at anytime a terrorist could breach our gates was as close as I'd ever get to combat - after a yr on Fuji I got orders to MCB Quantico, which was an undeployable unit.

After things settled down on Fuji, our Supply office was over-manned, so I was volun-told to work at the Fire Dept. alongside EOD as a 1st response fireflapper lol. W/ the Fuji training ground came a lot of brush fire from incendiary artilliery rounds, and me and a group of about 7 others were the lucky ones who got to go out and fight them. We had these Humvees w/ a make shift tank, and water hose but most of the time 8-12 of us could just fire flap it out.

After Fuji went to TBS on Quantico, and lucked out picking up a Fiscal MOS as a secondary MOS which propelled me into my civilian job aboard Quantico now.

Got out as an E-4 (Corporal of Marines), and had put in a re-enlistment package, but never was given any incentive to do so. Our career planner was a Sgt (usually a SNCO billtet), and sucked major azz. Decided to get out, and low and behold after being a civ for about 6 mos get a call from a prior service recruiter who's telling me he'd make me a Sgt if I wanted to come back in. I asked him why that offer was never on the table when I had my package in, but he couldn't give me an answer...go figure silly ol' USMC.

Anyways...having served in America's finest fighting force I'm proud of our country and all my fellow service men and women who make our lives possible.

                Are ya?

Marines know how to use their bayonets. Army bayonets may as well be paper-weights.

CTR1 in the U.S. Navy 8 years. Been all over the world. Recently got a desk job after spending 4 months in Iraq/Afghanistan doing Find, Fix, Finish missions. was a part of 19 "sucessful" missions.

Before that I was in DIRect SUPport ridding ships, subs, planes where ever I was needed. I loved my old job, but I also like having a desk and working a 9-5 for a few years. Getting to be stationed back where I grew up is really nice.

I was discharged to losing an inordinate amount of hearing( yes I wore hearing plugs). Since my Army Unit just got back from Iraq when I arrived I got spared going to Iraq when the Insurgency really got bad. Then when my unit was slated to go to Iraq, The suits decided Hawaii would be a great place for a Stryker Unit and my brigade got picked. I was stationed in Hawaii for the majority of time with the exceptions of the random deployments( NTC Twice, South Korea, Philippines). Those 4 years were the best part of my life, I just wish it would have been longer. So here I am on unemployment unable to find a decent job, its high time I put that GI bill to use....
Hey cusefan, I too spent the majority of time in Hawaii. I was a 31B. I used to work the gate at Tripler with a bunch of 11B after 9/11. Mostly the "wolfhounds" I believe, they kept it interesting to say the least LOL.

I was in for 8 years and some change, got out in 08 I finished up in recruiting which was another interesting scenario.

Oh, just read your last part, when I got out I became a corporate recruiter, then the economy drama happened and I was laid off. I just went to school full-time, the new GI bill is the hotness man, they give you BAH and pay your full tuition, I would strongly recommend using it.
